Hello my name is shawn ,i was asked if i could help my neighbours with their nice green 206cc as they cant operate thier roof ,i have pug plannet and took a look at the systems fault list on the roof and it reports boot open switch grounded or short (in other words in the active position to ground i assume) the boot lid closes but the front part is not it bounces about and does not seem locked ,here lies the problem when its not latched the microswitches sees the boot lid open .This has inhibited the pump operation which has prevented them from using the roof .
My question is how do i get the roof reset in such a way it will work again ?
Any help would be greatfully recieved .

Hi yes ive done the manual putting up and down but the latches on the front of the boot(bin) are not locking the front part of the boot down ,i was asking if any body can point out why this is and how to solve as the mech will not operate to do the last bit and latch it down in the roof up and roof down position .

I think the boot open switch is located in the lower part of the boot lock latch.
If you look inside the latch, under the striker connected to the spring, there are two thin metal prongs that lie side by side.
These press 2 microswitches down when the boot is closed. One microswitch is for the roof ecu, the other for the alarm. Sometimes, these prongs become loose or cross over each other. Its worth checking.
You can remove the latch by removing the 3 torx screws, then release the spring mechanisim and you can then move the striker out of the way and fix the prongs. or replace the switch with a new one.
The switch can be bought without the whole lower latch and is cheap, but be careful removing the small cups that hold the switch to the latch.
The microswitches connect to the wiring loom via a plug. Check that part of the wiring and the plug itself.
Also worth removing the upper boot trim and checking the cables that run from the latches to the hydraulic ram that opens the boot havent snapped or the looped ends come off. At the end of each cycle, the roof ecu tells these rams to pull these cables therefore operating the latches.

ahh ok i have inspected the cables from the rams to the latches ,one of them had dislodged from its metal outer cable anchorage at the latch end(owners hubby got fruity with screwdriver
) however the other ends which you mention are all in good order .The dislodged one has been replaced using a good pair of pliars .
so can i assume the fault code is still due to the latches not actually latching thus leaving the two microswitches in the open position .if so when we put weight on the front edge of the bin and tried it the mechanism still did not want to go at all .so im still stuck ,,,,,unless i try the window overide sequence maybe this will encourage it to complete its closure ?.

Pushing down should be enough for you to hear a click and the latches engage at the end of the roof cycle.
The fact that you cant do that suggests the latches are not in the correct position for some reason.
perhaps there is another sensor around the latch region that is faulty and stopping thew latches from operating.

Ok yes the latches engage and the cams rotate but the white catch-hooks are not allowed to travel enough to make the latch cams lock down ,this sugests the cables are not relaxed enough by the rams to allow them to latch thus allowing the front edge of the bin to be unlocked.cheekee wrote:Pushing down should be enough for you to hear a click and the latches engage at the end of the roof cycle.

there needs to be some way in which to allow the pump to move the system a little more to achieve this ,but as i say diagnostics are telling me there is a boot open switch issue which doesnt seem to clear when weight is put on the edge which is not latching so ill take a look at the lock microswitches on the bumper slam panel near the boot lock first ,,,,you never know things may start to wirrr and work .

May I ask...
Once you have pushed down on the boot and manually locked the latches when you hear the click,
Do the latches open and allow the boot to open on attempting to open the roof ?
Also : In the boot on the lid at the sides near the hinges there are two white loops. If you pull them out and turn them 90 degrees then push them back in - this may help.
This video goes into great detail about the roof.

Hope this helps.

Ok the latches are in the ready or open position all the time when pushed the latches travel the full rotation on the the post but there is no click as the clasps are supposed to lock .because the latches do not click shut i cannot tell you if they would unlock when the system is initiated as the system is not operable and beeps.
we have done the manual loop locking in order to secure the bin lid so it doesnt blow open when mobile but we havnt tried the proceedure shown in the excellent video yet, we will try this next time the car is available.
i also will try the windo override method too this might jog it into re setting from its currrent position .........maybee ?

If the latches are in the open position, then perhaps its because one of the switches shown in the video has malfunctioned and is telling the roof ecu that the boot lid isnt closed in the position required to activate the latches.
Without being rude, Wonder if the owners when they were overzealous with a screwdriver, that something was accidentally damaged or the wiring accidently hit and a wire is broken internally.

In answer to your question about the screwdriver no . they had no reason to use any tools on it untill after the system failed ,ive visually checked the switches they look and sound ok with a tactile click when mechanicly operated ,i need to inspect the boot latch one closer and using your instruction i will do so soon .
ive started a new thread on the roof section for us to continue as i couldnt find this one initially
