Puts one worry to rest, anyway.

A lot of dealers ask directly whether its an import, thats what happen when we bought both our cars, in fact Alfa asked us to sign a form to declare the car wasn't imported

Interesting article and in theory I think he's right - even though I believe Quentin is the public relations arm of that particular import company. Its the practise that makes things difficult with a lot of resistance to change because some people importing will make more secondhand than other uk car owners who stand to loose more money in the shorter term while prices adjust.

I'd love to buy an import tomorrow if I could get the same sort of service an convienience as UK cars. It would also have saved me at least 12K on the 2 mercs me an my partner have just bought.

I also remember saying some time ago in a thread on this Forum that I believed buying a european import would not pose the same sort of problems when selling it as Japenese grey imports do because of the fundamental differences. Nice to see Quentin endorsing it.

Robbie.

I mean, why should it make a difference to them where the car came from as long as it was in the EU?

Ahhh!!! I suppose it allows them to offer a lower Part ex price if it is imported as whoever they sell the car to will do the same to them. whether thats another dealer or a punter
