nearside alloys are a bit scuffed (natch). inside is leather. its for the girlfriend really as i have my motorbikes and a s40 volvo which will be for sale soon. she'll only use it for work, which is about a half a mile away. and to go shopping in. as i said, we hope to have a look at it this weekend, and, being a cheeky chap and 6 foot 6 tall, i'll try and knock the price down

Hello stafford, welcome to the forum :)

When looking at any 206cc for potential purchase, there are a few things to look for:

Check the inside for water stains. These cars, especially that age, can be prone to leaking. If the seller tells you it's been resealed, that hasn't necessarily fixed the problem - i've heard stories of reseals opening up leaks where it didnt leak before! :/

Make sure you get to see it's roof in operation. It should take about 22 seconds and all movements should be smooth. If it takes significantly longer, the parts are wearing and they're SUPER expensive to replace, and if it hiccups then it's low on hydraulic fluid or the joints could be slightly out of whack.

These cars run through brake pads at an alarming rate, especially on the front so it would be nice to know when they were last changed.

Also at that age, make sure it's timing belt has been replaced, because otherwise you're gonna have to replace it and the waterpump very soon.

When it drives, being an auto, pay attention to it's gear changes. I have an auto tiptronic and it's a NIGHTMARE which decides on it's own when it's going to play up badly, or when it's going to drive like nothing's wrong. The auto should be less problematic but still should change gears smoothly and without hesitation.

Low batteries cause phantom faults on the ECU's, as well as damaging them and they are some of the most expensive parts in the car so it would be good to know how old the battery is.

And then all the usual like checking service record, tyre tread, cracks in light lenses, windscreen wiper blades etc etc

Hope all goes well!

i would watch a few clips of the roof in action on youtube or similar first to make sure you know what you are supposed to be seeing and what may be wrong. also check the front seats as they have a reputation for sliding back or moving on their own. good luck mate....
