Peugeot 206cc Car Stereo and Multifunction display

Hi all,

My wife has just bought a 51 plate 206cc 2.0 Gti. The car came with an aftermarket Cd Player in it and the Multi function display is not working. It lights up but there is no Digital Display. I spoke to my Local Peugeot Garage, for all the good that did and am still none the wiser.
Does the car need an Original Pug Cd/Radio in it for the display to function properly and if so can you change a PPT40 Version ( Jaeger) with a PPT30 Version (siemens) Multifunction Display as the PPT40 ones are pretty scarce and it works or does it have to be the same type.
Also, does anyone know if the Air Conditioning/Heating panel is supposed to light up, the one below the orange Temp display.

They never made a gti version
Mfd won't light up unless you have a peugot stereo on it
The mpg ect will show up that's about all
I'm pretty sure all the climate control bit lights up
