Have I been sold a banger?

Hi all,

Just through I would post a message on this site for advice.

My girlfriend brought a 02 plate 206cc 2.0 SE for 3750 and it had 38K on the clock. Now, there are some issues in this vehicle and I wondered if you could help. These are.

1. Driver’s seat belt will come out but keeps locking if you do not move it at a snail’s pace.

2. The exhaust seems ok but the tail looks a bit rusty. I mean if I have to change it for her I will buy a stainless steal one so not worried.

3. It makes little squeaking noises – not too bad for a car that age. I suspect it could be the suspension but I thought the 206cc has slightly sporty suspension so it would be a bit stiff?

4. While the radio works etc (as does the remote control), the central screen display options is stuck on 32 MPG and I cannot move it with the side buttons to any other view. Will a diagnostic check sort this out?

5. It was serviced before purchase.

6. The gears are very slightly clunky but I remember driving a new one and it had the same thing. I may need a new cluch with may help with that situation.

7. Tapping noise when accelerating hard. But become quieter (but still present) when the engine has run a little.

8. The whole engine "rasps" a little and feels a bit loose . I can only put that down to age can I?

As I perceive some of you are experts with this vehicle (more than I anyway) I thank you in advance for your help.

To change the LCD bit
Push the button on the end of the stalk on the right hand side
The wipers one

As for engine might need a good run
Not a bad price paid could have got an allure for that
Exhaust is common that's why I changed mine

Hmm odd maybe something wrong then
Fuses ok sensors all there ???

Mines an allure but I'm sure they all have the on board computer bit

Not sure, looking at it now.

Any advice on the seat belt?

What is the difference between an SE and an allure. I bought this vare when it first came out and the allure didnt have as many extras on it?
