Frozen Fuel filler cap

Post by cheekee »

I pulled up beside the petrol pump this evening and tried to unlock the fuel filler cap.

Disaster........Wouldnt budge.

Called my breakdown company to ask for help.

In the meantime I got a can of WD40 as I was at a supermarket and sprayed so inside the lock and waited....and waited....and waited.....

And to my relief as my fuel light was on....it finally loosened. Cancelled the breakdown company.

So just a reminder to eveyone as we are not used to such cold temperatures to check youre fuel filler caps !

Good old WD40! I have had a problem when the petrol cap hasn't been removed for a while. I spray it and put the key in and out a few times to get the oil in the mechanism...it works a treat!

Had the same problem myself two weeks ago. I have a mini can of WD40 in my glove box but it didn't have any effect whatsoever! I had to drive off without filling up, luckily I never wait until it's empty.

Last night I masking taped a polythene bag over the filler cap hoping it would protect it so I could fill up this morning but after waking up to deep snow I'm going nowhere!

My friend used on and it worked a treat.

A metal prong goes into the lock and heats up quickly.

Will let you know when I get mine and I need to use it lol.
