Trip Computer & Battery Light Flash when Locks activated

Post by JulieCarr »

Any advice gratefully received to this one. Have only had the vehicle for about a month and this is the latest in a line of niggles. (2002 206cc S).

Drove vehicle ok this morning but when I tried to lock it with remote key, nothing happened. I locked it manually, then tried the key again, which unlocked the vehicle as usual.

When I got into the vehicle, the battery warning light and trip computer display started flashing. I could also hear a clicking noise in time with the flashing. Once key was put into ignition, this stopped and vehicle drove as normal.

Next time I tried to lock it, same happened again. However, I finally managed to lock it with remote key, but light and computer continued to flash. Not wanting to end up with a flat battery, I re-opened the vehicle and inserted the key into the ignition. Flashing stopped so I manually locked vehicle.

All ok when I returned to the vehicle this evening at first, then light/computer started flashing again until I put key in ignition.

Finally, on trying to lock vehicle this evening, nothing working by remote. Tried the spare key as wondered if it was something simple like a low battery in the key, but same problem with spare. Had to manually lock and then the alarm went off. Eventually managed to stop this and lock the vehicle again. Only light flashing now is the one (presumably the alarm? but hasn't flashed before) between the hazard and quick lock switches.

Hi
I had a very similar problem with my 206cc. Those lights usually flash because of the cars econo-mode (a battery saving mode that turns all the battery operated stuff such as the radio off when the ignition is off.)
Mine did it because the battery was knackered, I had the battery changed and the problem was gone.

not saying this is the fault with yours, but worth looking into maybe?

Jack.

Thanks for that. Going to speak to dealers today as I don't want to end up stranded somewhere with a flat battery.

I only bought the car about 4 weeks ago and already seriously considering getting rid.....

Dealers can't look at it until next Wednesday and want to "investigate the problem, which may take a while". Perhaps I am just cynical....?

So took it to a local battery/tyre place and had the battery tested. All ok, except the chap's machine was telling him something was switched on, even though it wasn't. That got me thinking about the clicking sound again so I told him I was wondering now if it could be a relay problem. He agreed with me, so hopefully I can give the dealers more to go on when they have a look.

Hey
No Worries.

I've only had mine two weeks, and already had to spend £450 on it.....
I love the car so I'm not guna get rid of it just yet, but the thought has crossed my mind more than once!!1
Hope its nothing serious and the dealers can sort it out for you.

Poor you!

Good news is that the problem has seemed to have sorted itself out. Wondering if some of the heavy rain we've had this weekend got somewhere it shouldn't have (apart from my front passenger seat that is!). Going to call off the dealers as I don't see any point in them spending time looking for a problem that isn't there at the moment.

Wish me luck - travelling up north at weekend (from Dorset) so first long journey in the lime green bimbo-mobile as my family call it!

Got back from Stafford yesterday. Feeling loads better about the car - I suppose it's proved itself now.

It was filthy dirty though, looked like I had been rallying. Had a day off work today, the sun is shining so I thought I would hand-wash the car. Bit of a shock - 2 wheel nuts missing from each of the front wheels and 1 missing from one of the back ones! I reckon that might account for the slight knocking sound when turning right..... I wasn't too worried as (a) the place I bought it from said they had noticed a noise and replaced the front suspension bushes so all was ok and (b) I previously owned a Citroen Berlingo and have driven a Peugeot 106 and they did a similar thing so put it down to a quirk of the car.

Now going to have to get some new wheel nuts. Probably a silly question, but are these universal or do I have to get specific ones for the car?

Oh the joys of buying second-hand cars!

I assume you mean the wheel bolt plastic covers Julie? If you go to your main dealer and give them your registration number and they should be able to provide you with the correct set for your car. They do differ between models according to my local Peugeot indie.

Mines just being doing this today, but doing it as soon as the keys are took out the ignition.

In my case after fiddling about, I think its down to the interior light. I suspect that some water may of gotten in and arsed it up. With interior light off, doesnt appear to do it.
