Another Supagard query

Just ordered a 206cc and can't wait to get it (6-8 weeks they reckon).

My Peugeot dealer has given me a leaflet on Supaguard. I have read the other postings on Supagard and see others have paid Â£150 for it. I was told Â£300 but this not only includes the interior and exterior protection but also KeyCare (reward given to anyone handing in your lost keys, cover for programmed keys etc), International Security Register (window etching) and a SupaCard (discount card for many high street shops). Does this sound familiar to others. Is it worth paying Â£300 for this option?

I would say no, read the other posts in this section about Silver seal. The nice lady from the company is most helpful.

Having had my Peugeots Supaguarded and my Pumas Silver Sealed I would say Silver Seal every time now.

Ring Silver Seal and ask them your local installer/treater (?).

Bear in mind my Ford dealer was only charging Â£150 to non customers for inside and out - so supaguard is also SUPA PRICE.

Yes it does seem that all these product services are run on a franchise basis. Some will charge more, others less, and there is some room for manouvre on the reduction front as I found out, I saved Â£70 per car.

Don't want to hijack this thread but I've just arranged to get my car treated with Diamond Brite. Again the bloke offered the treatment at a discounted price for inside and out. Wasn't anywhere near Â£300 !. Hope to get it done this Saturday. Bloke will do it at my house. Has anyone had any experience of this Diamond Brite treatment being applied at their home and is there anything I should look out for ?. All the bloke said to do was ensure car was clean then he would do the rest. Also are there any wheel treatments for alloys ?

Itâ€™s not often Iâ€™m referred to as a nice lady Rob â€“ weâ€™ll have you converted to Autosmart yet!! Supagard offer dealers a range of options to sell on â€“ from the basic protector to the full blown kit with Keycare and a Countdown card. Some dealers love this approach as it gives them a justification for charging a lot more for the application, as is the case here, with no extra work. However, you need to ask yourself does it add value for you? Personally I think that it is a lot of money for little extra. You might even find that you can already use a Keycare service offered by your credit cards.

To answer Robbie. I donâ€™t believe that these products are run as a franchise, but pricing is very regional. The prices that dealers pay for the protection kits are fairly standard across the country and depend mainly on the volumes they purchase. The simple truth is that dealers charge what they can get away with, as this is an important revenue earner for them. Generally you will find the best deals at the car supermarkets, who are very geared up for applying the paint protectors and shift huge volumes each month. Places like Motorpoint have people full time employed just to apply the paint and fabric protector and so will often do a deal when there is a lull in business.

Itâ€™s not uncommon to find mobile valeters who will apply the treatment for you Rich. It should be fine but just make sure you get a proper Diamond Brite guarantee for it. You also need to be aware that the Diamond Brite guarantee is only for 1 year. At the end of the year your car needs to be checked by an authorised Diamond Brite centre (who may charge for the service) and your guarantee card needs to be stamped. Many mobile valeters are fine and have been around for years but you do also find some fly by nights who are here today and gone tomorrow. Therefore you could run the risk of finding yourself needing to find another Diamond Brite centre. If heâ€™s been around for a while though then you should be fine. If you want to be really certain you could always ring Jewel Ultra (supplier of Diamond Brite) and check that he is an authorised distributor.

With reference to wheel treatments for alloys. They certainly make wheel washing a lot easier â€“ especially brake dust. This is quite a new area that weâ€™re all starting to get into. Weâ€™ve only tested the Supagard one todate. The lab say itâ€™s not bad but will only last about 2 months. There is therefore no guarantee offered with the product. We havenâ€™t launched one yet but have started field trials. Again, there will not be a 3 year guarantee â€“ we think the life is about 3 â€“ 4 months.

I got the number for the technician from JewelUltra direct. I contacted the tech and he states that the treatment has a 6 -year guarantee. Didn't mention anything about the annual inspection thou so thank you for highlighting that. I have gone back to JewelUltra with some more questions re strength of guarantee etc and will post the reply when I get it. Thanks again for the help.

As for wheel treatments I still use Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing - I know it says tyres but it does a much better job of protecting the wheels. Only reapply it 2 times a year.

Rob,
I followed your instructions in an earlier posting and used the AutoGlymn tyre dressing after I had washed the wheel. I didn't just use it on the tyre but as you said covered the whole wheel including the alloy while it was still wet. The only thing was I lost my bottle when the streaks didn't seem to dissapear so wiped them over with spamspam towel to get the residual off. Came up a treat thou.Looked brand new after I'd finished. Surely I'd have to go through the same routine when I next wash the wheels thou ?. The protection can't last for months can it ?.

Greg - got your cheque and also got you autoglym - will ship with model.

As for the tyre dressing, it does dry streak free. Well I have never had any problems yet.

It does last for months, so stick with it. The shine is worth it
