Hi newbi with anti pollution probs

Post by slate »

Hi i have just bought my first peugeot  a 2.0 petrol206cc and i hope it wasn't a mistake had it a month, mostly town driving and a trip up the motorway and all was well till today when an anti pollution warning appeared and the management warning light is now on , the fuel cosumption also seems to have increased, so before i start pulling out sensors (lamba) and throwing coils etc at i thought i might seek a bit of advice which i would be gratfull for.

Hi Slate,

Bought my 2.0l 206cc allure (reg 2006) less than 2 weeks ago, and seem to be having the same sort of problems as you, in a morning mine ticks over for arround 10 seconds, then starts to shake and shudder violently, if you press the accelerator lots of smoke from the exhaust................... it does this for around 5mins at the front of the house then when I pull away its reluctant to accelerate, no good in traffic but fine if I get on a straight road with no stopping. (runs brilliant after a couple of mins).

Took it back to the garage when the anti pollution and engine management lights came on with an intermitent beeping, they ran a diagnostic test which they said shows I needed a new coil pack ehich they replaced, then when re-tested they said the lambda sensor was showing a fault, so they changed it. (I owned the car 2 days they had it for 6 days)

I then got the car back and guess what first morning the exact same happened again, so now I don't know what to do, this site seems to mention the hydraulic tappets, at this rate I will end up with a new car with all the parts that are being replaced.

Let me know how you get on or if you have any more symtoms (I also joined last night)

Hi not a happy bunny

Ive read a lot about coil packs and catalitic converters on 206 cc's in the last couple of days and to be frank i dont believe a word of any of it,and as for having to change hydraulic tappets on a two year old motor thats ridiculous and unbelievable.

I am going to borrow a code reader tomorrow and see what faults are stored, which i would'nt mind betting are numerous then clear them down and see if any reoccur straight away when driven.

there seems to be a list of things to check after that.
1. loose or poor connections
2. remove and clean lambdas
3. check clean/replace spark plugs
4. change oil and filter (extended oil intervals not always the best idea)
5. fuel filter
6. clean ecu with WD40 ( water ingress seems to have been a problem, but DO NOT dissconect ecu plug, apperently it will wipe ecu, further research needed.)

And if all of that dosen't work, get drunk

Hi, me again,

I have a list of new faults, I got in the car this morning, to the same juddering then reluctant to pull away, exhaust puffing out smoke, then warning lights and beeps.

1) ESP/AER not functioning,
2) Anti pollution fault,
3) Cat converter fault,
4) Imobiliser fault,

Add these onto the list, the fact is I have already had a new coil pack fitted and a new lambda sensor fitted, and I have owned the car 2wks on weds, out of this time the garage has had it 6days. It now has been booked in for Monday for god knows how long.

Beginning to wish I had kept my ford focus !!!!!

Anyone any ideas what would cause so many faults to appear at once, I hadn't even left my drive.

Hi
Wife drove car yesterday and all the warning lights went out and stayed out , put a code reader on it and it brought up stored code P1621. internal ECM fault, cleared it down and it stayed cleared, so i guess it will return intermittantly.

The ECU looks to be in a really vunerable position from water being just under the bonnet and behind the righthand headlamp.

you could try spraying it liberalywith WD40.if water has got in the plugs it will play havoc with the sensor signals, which could be why your getting so many faults

the other possiability with so many faults it could be an earth fault, find where the main earth point are located on the engine and chassi and check for broken or loose wires.

Hi Slate,

Poorly car booked into the garage for Monday AM, earliest they could fit it in..........
they now think it's a cat fault, thank god I jumped in when my hubby was sealing the deal and asked how much warranty he was giving (used car dealer) he reluctantly gave me a month when I started to walk away !

Problems started on the first morning,

I will let you know how it runs after Monday

Hi,

My 206cc 2.0l (06 plate) went back to the garage again yesterday, they think they have found the fault, the mechanic seems to think it's sticking valves, his has run a chemical flush through, and asked me to pick it up today and use it until Monday.

If however on Monday the shaky morning starts from cold have'nt subsided, it has to go back in to have the cylinder head (I think thats what he said) stripped down and have the corrosion brushed off the valves.

Hope this makes sense, I am mearly a woman so what do I know...................

hi

not sure if there talking about injector cleaner in the fuel or some sort of redex treatment through the air intake or a flushing oil in the engine with oil and filter change, would be interesting to know.

what sort of mileage is on your engine, low mileage engines serviced regularly with oil and filter changes shouldn't be coked up (build up of carbon deposits on the valves etc)

Hi Slate,

He said he had changed the filter and it had had up to now £140 of oil too (must be liquid gold for that price) like I said I don't know that much.

It is like you said, he showed us the same part off a "scooby" there was 6 of the valves just like a metal disk(about the size of a £2 coin with a rod 7" or so long and they were black over half of each and he said it was carbon build up.

He said mine was missfiring, on the machine it was bringing up cylinders 2 and 4 faulty and when he looked the valves where opening and staying open until the car was thoughly warmed hence trying the chemical flush first.

I will see how it goes over the next few days, have to report back to the mechanic on Monday.

The mileage is 46'000 (06 plate) and it has had regular services at a peugeot garage I have the full service history for the car.
