Knocking and juddering when pulling away

Hi All! Can anyone help please, got a 206cc and when pulling away in 1st gear I get a dreadful juddering and knocking. Seems like the engine is about to fall out! All sounds and feels fairly central to the car but appears to be getting louder. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance

Hi rl1,

I had a similar problem with my auto gearbox - it was because I was putting ULP (91) in it. The dealer explained to me that they need to run on PULP because their engines idle at higher revs, so now I only put PULP 98 in it, and problem solved, smooth running ever since...

I'm guessing your car is a manual - mine being auto just refused to get into first gear, I had to really rev it and then it would suddenly and vigorously snap into first with a loud knock and would judder like crazy - what sounds like the automatic rendition of the same problem you have but I'm not sure...

Just a thought...
