Hi anyone with more knowledge than me! that's probably everyone on this site, can you give me any advice on what to do next?
I bought a clean 1 owner 206cc 2ltr SE 02 only 45000 1 month ago from what I thought was a reputable dealer. I pointed out a few fairly minor issues on test driving car and they agreed to get them fixed asap, but because they would not be able to get around to it for a week they told me to take the car and then bring it back in a week for repairs to be done. Sounds great so far, I paid for my vehicle and left, during the following few days I noticed a thud when I accelerated up the box from low gear. I thought it might be an engine mount, so when I returned to dealer I added this to the list of things to be done. After 1 week they said all was fixed, but it was not an engine mounting or gearbox mounting, just a loose clamp on the exhaust, great I thought I can now start to bond with my new baby!
On inspection all seemed fine, paintwork touched up ok, exhaust rattle fixed, oil leak from power steering fixed, they said the problem was a loose clamp at the manifold end and now thats tightened up it would be ok! After taking the car back home I noticed that the noise was still there not every time but never the less it was still clunking, and the exhaust was still rattling. I rang them back and the sales manager said bring it back and we will get our chief mechanic to test drive car again and have another crack at the exhaust. 3 weeks later!!! I was told that my car was fixed, it was a loose clamp at the manifold!!! I think I had heard this somewhere before!!!
By now I was getting a little frustrated good job I still had the use of my fiesta during this time or I would have been really up the creek! I collected the car again this morning to be told that everything had been checked and double checked by the big boss mechanic himself, and the exhaust rattle is due to it being a double skin and is quite normal on this car, also the clunking was only a loose clamp on the manifold, and was now ok! (once again I think I have heard this somewhere before) I took my car hoping that this was an end to the problem, seeing as I had owned the car for 1 month but it had been with with the garage for 3 weeks out of the 4. Guess what after 10 mins in the car I changed down the box at an Island and as I accelerated up into 2nd gear there it was "clunk" It now feels like its vibrating through the gear stick too.
My partner now said enough is enough and he took the car back again telling them that we would get an independent inspection and left them with a letter from trading standard saying that the car was not fit for purpose etc! They did not seem very worried and said by all means get a second opinion, and as they were very busy selling cars there was no one available to take it on a test drive again to day. So before I pay out any more money, has anyone any thoughts on what could be causing the problem? or should I just ask for my money back? Its otherwise a very lovely little ladies car and very appealing, but Im not sure after reading so many posts on this site that I can afford to live with the stress of owning a Peugeot 206cc. Im getting stressed now as my Fiesta has gone to its new owner and I am not sure whether or not they will want the car back for another 3 weeks or perhaps they might not want to see me or the car ever again!!!

Re: clunking sound when accelerating up from low gear!
I have the same problem but really is only when I accelerate in 2nd gear for example when turning a corner at low speed then accelerating.
