Just seen this message on my dash! also seen the warning "Insuficient oil pressure" rushed to the garage topped up with oil? sorry for the spelling should have stuck in at school! but still it keeps beeping, any ideas?
The car seems to be running fine.

Sounds like a collapsed oil filter, an oil pump or pressure relief valve problem.

As a start I'd carry out an oil and filter change, using the genuine Peugeot part and correct spec oil. If you've done that recently then just try changing the filter first.

If that makes no difference then you'll need to investigate further. Keep us posted.

hi folk thanks for your input.
phoned Peugeot told them the problem and the mechanic thinks i have prob knacked the engine by letting the oil run so low? and will prob be an insurance job! sounds bloody expensive to me and has made me afraid to take it in to get checked, no low oil light ever came on untill the insuffient oil pressure warning light.
Also i put fully synthetic oil instead of semi? will this harm it?
By the way the car runs like a dream so surley i couldnt have damaged the engine?
Mark
ps will let you all know the end result and hopefully it will be good.
Peugeot garages frighten me to death because i have yet to win the lottery!.

Fully synthetic oil of the correct viscosity is better than semi so no need to worry there.
Get a new genuine oil filter and fit it. Dead easy - a five minute job.

When you've fitted the new filter, run the engine for half a minute, switch off and let the oil drain back down. Check the level using the dipstick, and top up as necessary with the correct fully synthetic oil.

That should solve your problem.

Going to get an oil filter tomorrow Ron, can you tell me what the correct viscosity is? the oil i put in was 5W/40.
Another thing that worrys me about putting it into Peugeot is that they say they will def do an oil change! Why!
Again many thanks for all your input but still dont think i,ll sleep to good tonight.
Mark.

5w-40 is perfect Mark. I use Total Quartz 9000 5w40 grade fully synthetic as recommended in the service book. I would only change the oil if it has been in for a year, or if the oil has done 10,000 miles or thereabouts.

I share your concerns about using a garage. The only time our 206cc sees a garage is for its annual MOT test. Ours lives a pampered life as I do all my own servicing. Have done for the last 40 years since our first car - a 1956 Ford Prefect.

My Golf is serviced by a garage as it is still under warranty, but as soon as that expires I'll be doing that myself too.

OK guys got it all sorted and you were right it was the oil filter! had to put it into the Arnold Clark PEUGEOT in Clydebank, total cost £71.93p.
£50.00 for the LAB
£11.22 for the filter
£10.71 VAT
To be honest i am delighted with this because i thought i had done serious damage by not checking the oil.
Now can you believe my luck! the next day i am driving to work enjoying my car as i always do and suddenly the car loses all power like someone just pulling a plug!
No dash lights and no power! complete silence!
I managed to pull into the side and called the AA, "AND ALL THIS TIME I AM CURSING THE GARAGE" anyway it turned out to be a lead underneath the battery that had corroded? and come lose! nothing to do with the garage.
AA man fixed it in about 20 min.
So anyway full marks to you guys, full marks to the AA ( 10 MIN ARRIVAL ) and full marks to Arnold Clark Peugeot Clydebank.
Back to cruising in my 206!
Many thanks Ron and Reap.

Flippin 'eck, 50 quid for the 5 minutes it takes to change an oil filter! I'm glad I do my own servicing.

Glad you're happy though, and that you got the lead issue sorted quickly by the AA.

Thanks for feeding back.
