Hi I am new to the site and was hoping that someone would be able to help with a problem that started on my peugeot 206cc (02 reg) last night. When i switched the ignition off and took the keys out, the orange light on the clock stayed on and started flashing and the battery light on the dash stayed on. I tried to lock the car, using the key fob and the lights still remained on. After numberous attemps, the lights finally went off anf the imobiliser clicked into action.

When i went to use the car this morning, i unlocked it using the key fob and the orange light where the clock is came on and started flashing again and battery light came straight on again (without me even opening the car door). When i got to work, i removed the keys from the iginition and it was fine this time!

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Thanks
Emma

Welcome to the forum Emma,
Could be just a glitch, a one-off hopefully that won't happen again.
Or, it could perhaps be early indications of a battery or alternator fault.
If it happens again it would be interesting to know.
Incidentally, when did you last change the batteries in your key fob?

Thanks for coming back to me Ron. The same thing happened again last night when i left work and this morning, but only when i am trying to open the car, it is fine when i am locking it.

I bought the car 18 months ago and have never changed the batterys in the key fob, do you think this may be linked to this and worth changing? If so do you know how much they cost and where you can get replacement batterys from and fitted?

Thanks
Emma

Hi Emma,
I'm guessing, but, - Warning that the remote control battery is flat is given by an audible signal accompanied by the message "Remote control battery low" on the multifunction display and I'm wondering whether this is the message that is trying to come up on your car. To replace the battery, remove the screw then unclip the casing using a coin at the ring. The battery is a CR2016 3 volt battery and I think I bought my last one from Sainsburys, but most places that sell batteries should have them e.g. Wilkinsons. Should only cost a quid or two. Your Peugeot dealer would sell them of course, and should be able to change it for you if you're not confident enough.

If the remote control does not work after the battery has been changed, reprogramme the remote control:-
a. Switch off the ignition.
b. Switch the ignition on again.
c. Press button A. (The bigger of the 2 buttons that you normally press to lock the car.)
d. Switch off the ignition and remove the remote control key from the ignition lock. It should now be working again.
It is all explained in your owners handbook, page 69 I think. Certainly worth a try if only to eliminate it. Or try using your spare key if you have one.
