I have Peugeot 206 which I bought from new 5 years ago. I only have 16,600 miles on the clock.
I am having problems with my gears .
Sometimes when I am stationary and go into 1st gear my car will not move. It has usually happened when I am parking my car and after I have reversed. It has only happened a few times .However just before Christmas when I was out I was going up into 3rd from 2nd and it would not go into gear .Eventually it did .It was ok .Then I on my way back I was going down from 3rd to second and it would not go into gear .I stopped put the car into neutral and then into first and it moved off ok .It also changed up and own gears ok. While I am driving I have also noticed that when I try to get into 1st gear it starts to get a bit stiff to get the gear.
The Peugeot garage wanted £600 to strip the gear box down to find out what was wrong. I took it a a local Nationwide garage and they checked the linkages but they were ok. They are saying that it is the gear box and have suggested a reconditioned gear box.
I don’t have a clue about cars .
Would be grateful for any suggestions as to whether it is the gear box or something else.
