REAR BRAKES/ENGINE MANAGEMENT

Hi, I hope someone out there can help me! I have a 206 auto W reg. Was driving home late the other night and the brakes failed. managed to pump them enough to get the car to stop. then carried on home, 1/4 mile. Brakes working intermittently. Got home, smoke coming from the back wheels. Positive that i DIDNT drive home with the handbrake on, but possible I didnt let it all the way off. Next day, car started, turned it round, brakes working. half hour later, went to start it again, engine turned over, caught for a bout 5 seconds, then cut out, all lights flashing on dash, engine management light on. tried to start it again several times, same thing happened. Any one got any ideas as to what the fault could be, and also is there a manual that i can download or tech info on the net anywhere? Any answers very gratefully recieved!! Thankyou.
