Reversing lights on all the time

Used the 206cc last night and the reversing lights were on all the time. I've taken out the bulbs as a temporary measure but I'll have to check the switch on top of the gearbox housing. I've ordered a 206 Haynes manual and will report back in a few days time when I've (hopefully) sorted it.

First thing that's gone wrong with the car really.

Yes, my suspicions were correct. I checked the switch on top of the gearbox and it was making the circuit no matter which position the plunger was in, so that was the culprit. A new switch from the main dealer (they had one in stock - price just £7.15), fitted it myself and everything is perfect again.
To access the switch for removal I removed the airbox first (no tools needed except a stubby screwdriver to push in the lugs to free the air hose). Disconnect the wiring to the switch (lever the tab slightly to release the little securing lug). A ring spanner to undo the switch (my sockets were too short because the switch body was too long to be accomodated within the socket). Old switch out, new switch in, don't overtighten (the torque setting is only 25 Nm [18 lbf ft], reconnect the wiring, slot the airbox back in place, make sure the lugs on the air hose are secure. Simple job, takes about 10 - 15 minutes. Ring spanner size (or long socket) is 22mm, or 7/8" A/F. I used an old Whitworth ring spanner of equivalent size.

Incidentally, some cheeky sod was advertising a 2nd hand switch on eBay for £8.99 + £1.99 postage. The brand new one from the main dealer was cheaper, and guaranteed of course.

The Haynes manual looks useful, number 4613 and covers 206's from 2002, petrol and diesel. £15.45 from a supplier on eBay, p&p free. There's a section on the roof mechanism too, and the roof electrical system. I hope I never have any problems with the roof but it's nice to know its covered in general terms in the manual.

That was useful, wifes lights wont come on bulbs and fuse ok, will have a go a switch.

Blooming car's going wrong all the time. The N/S dipped headlamp bulb blew last night. Took all of 10 minutes to fix it, and that included locating the spare bulb and finding a torch.

That's 2 things gone wrong in 6 years. So unreliable !!
