My wife bought a 2nd hand 2002 2ltr 206cc from a garage, We had the car for about 2 days when we noticed that there was several small puddles of oil on the drive & after i got the car in the air i noticed gearbox oil coming from the n/s driveshaft so thinking it was the driveshaft oil seal i have taken it back to the garage who changed it but its still leaking, I also have another problem which is the steering shakes when i go over 52 mph thinking the wheels needed balancing i checked the wheels & there is not one tyre the same on the car so im getting 2 new tyres for the front & getting them fittted on Saturday but the problem with the steering is one ive never had before the shaking lasts for about 5 seconds then goes away for about 5 seconds then repeats so im not sure if its the tyres or something to do with the driveshaft & yesterday i also noticed that when i took the car upto 95mph ( On a private road of course
) & accelerated it felt like the gearbox or engine was vibrating even worse but only when i put the foot down if i take my foot of the accelerator i just feel the 5 second vibration, I called the garage & told them about it & they have been ok about it & im taking the car back once they get there loan car back but i would just like some opinions as to what is wrong with this car, As this is the first peugeot we have every bought & its only done 55k with full service history its kind of spoiling our first peugeot.

Didn't you test drive it before you bought it ??? If not why not? If you did why'd you buy it?
They are very intolerant of worn / odd tyres. I'd put a full set of 4 quality tyres on it, and get them properly balanced. The problem is, if the previous owner has skimped on tyres then he/she will have skimped on other maintenance too and the car could cost loads to put everything right. It doesn't sound as if the garage have replaced the oil seal properly does it, or perhaps the driveshaft is bent.
Good luck, I think you're going to need it.

As i stated in my first post the car has a full service history anyone & i mean ANYONE who takes there car to a main dealer for a service and keeps the service up year after year does NOT skimp on maintenance, I did take the car for a test drive & told the sale person about the steering fault which he said would be sorted as the wheels were going off to be refurbed as they had several kerb marks and a couple of bits of rust starting to appear on them & the wheels would be balanced when the tyres were put back on, After my wife & i returned for the car which had just passed its MOT & asked about the the steering fault we were told it had been sorted & we did not expect the oil leak from a car that had just passed an MOT, I have no proof that the last owner skimped on the car in anyway, The wheels & tyres could have been removed from the car & replaced with a set from another car i really dont know but as the rest of the car is almost 100% in perfect condition i can only assume it has been well looked after, The car is going back to the garage a week on wednesday & they are going to keep it & give us a loan car until the faults are sorted, As i stated in my firsts post this is my first peugeot & i really just wanted some ideas as what could be causing the vibration & the shudder if anyone else had has this problem, so if anyone has it would be great if you could let me know.GrandadMonkey wrote:Didn't you test drive it before you bought it ??? Just a short follow up to my problems,As i hate it when someone asks for help but does not let anyone know the outcome of there problem which i think is the whole idea of sites like this, The steering wobble WAS the front wheels needing balanced but as i was not happy having different tyres on each corner i changed them for a full set of falkens & had all the wheels balanced car drives perfectly, The oil leak turned out to be the n/s driveshaft after replacing the oil seal & it still leaking the garage replaced the driveshaft & put a new oil seal on as well, everything seems fine now, So if anyone has any of the above problems they at least know one of the things that could be wrong with it.

Well done, I'm glad the new set of tyres and a new driveshaft sorted it for you.
Thanks for feeding back the result.
