Hello everyone!
Im your latest recruit to this site and just wanted to say hi!
I'm not actually a 206 cc owner as yet, but Im in the process of looking for a good one to buy. Cant afford new Im afraid so keeping my eyes open for a nice second hand bargain!
Been reading through quite a lot of your comments on this site and Im a bit disappointed to see quite a few negative things being written about the 206 cc, does everyone have trouble with their cars? It seems very common to have leaky roofs, squeaky doors/brakes/windows to name but a few. I dont want to be put off buying one of these cars cos I think they are lovely and have wanted one for quite a long time now, but I darent show my hubby this forum cos I know what he will think!
It may seem like a silly question - but do the members on here recommend that I buy a 206cc? and if so, do you have any advice for me, like things to look out for, possible faults etc?
Thanks!
Karen x
Hi Karen,
Welcome to the forum. I bought our 206cc as a birthday pressie for my wife 3 years ago and we've had no problems really. Sometimes an airbag warning light stays on but a wriggle of the wire under the driver's seat usually sorts it immediately. The passenger seat sometimes plays up by not locking in position, but it has never done in permanently - so far!!! There are the odd squeaks and rattles, but no more than you'd get from any other convertible. A lot of "faults" seem to be caused by owners themselves, particularly as far as the roof is concerned. My advice is to read the owners manual thoroughly before you use the car, and to follow the instructions to the letter. We always let the engine diagnostics finish their procedure before starting the car. We never operate the roof without having the engine running. When operating the roof don't touch anything else! The 1.6's seem to have fewer problems than the 2.0 litres. Maintain it well and you should be OK. Buy the newest and the best that you can find and afford. If you buy from an authorised Peugeot dealer, and get a car with FPSH you give yourself the best chance I guess. We bought privately from a fastidious owner and had no problems. Get a windbreak for it and you'll find open-top motoring more civilised.
Make sure everything works perfectly on the car BEFORE you buy. Make sure both keys are with it, the jack, wheelbrace, puncture repair kit and LOCKING WHEEL NUT KEY for the car.
What budget do you have? Remember to leave a little bit in reserve just in case. Many people sell their car when things begin to go wrong or when an expensive service is due, e.g. timing belt renewal due.
Best of luck, Ron
