Air noise from brakes !!!! HELP!!!

Hoping someone will be able to help me out with another prob on my beloved peugeot 206cc 2.0 litre !!!

I had all signs to indicate my brake pads were in desperate need of replacing, due to a grinding noise on the rear back wheel, i have since had them sorted!

However, just before i had them replaced and now as it hasn't ceased, it sounds like an 'air' or 'hissing' noise pretty much everytime i take my foot of the foot brake, almost coming from under the passenger foot well area?!!!

CAN U HELP?!

I have spoke to my mechanic who replaced the pads to say it was still there n he suggested that the pads just need to wear in?!!!

Im worried it may be something more!

Hope someone can put my mind at ease or suggest what it could be?!!!

tis the back of the servo leaking air in to passenger side. new servo heading your way. tis common if it makes you feel beter.

Sorry bit of a girl when it comes to these things, what is a servo? is it to do with my brakes? n is it expensive?

The servo gives power assistance to your brakes. Without it you would find the brake pedal too hard to push down to brake effectively. It will be a little pricey but it will need doing. It is a safety issue. As reap says it is not an uncommon fault. Get a quote from your local Peugeot specialist.

Hi, just to let you all know, good news for once, my servo is ok at the min, looks like i was worrying unnecessarily..... for now anyway

well..... too be honest i was so relieved when they said it didnt need replacing i didnt really take in what he was saying.......although he did say the diapragm was ok but may be on its way out due to the type of noise i was hearing?!

after much deliberation i spoke to a friend who has a 1.6 mines a 2.0 n she had exactly same prob n it was the servo, so im getting her mechanic to take a look at the weekend......

You know your own car i think better than anyone n i just know its not right

I'd hate to lose my braking power suddenly just because some says it's OK now, but it MAY be on its way out. Could happen at a most inconvenient moment.

I have this hissing noise as wel for quite a while now. Is it the servo to the brakes? What would it cost to have it replaced?

Had it exchanged for a 2nd hand one (only 9,000 mileage).
Cost me 100 euros inc installment (80 quid).

Hi i have had the hissing noise for over a year now when i take my foot off the brake. I have an automatic 206cc 52 reg, when i had my car serviced at a regular garage back in Nov i was told it was not dangerous but when it went it would be exspensive. Yesterday a new sound has joined in a high pitched noise so am now worried .

Can my brakes fail ?

How much is it to get the servo fixed (if it is that) ?

Should i go to Peugeot or my regular garage ?

Any help on this would be great

If the servo fails the amount of force you will need to exert on the brake pedal will increase greatly and your brakes will become less effective - dangerous.

Personally I'd go to my local Peugeot indy, they know what they are doing but don't charge main dealer prices.
