Hi everyone,

I have had my 53 plate 206cc Allure since December last year and I LOVE her, especially now the weather is nice!! Anyway, the only issue I have is that whenever I turn right at a roundabout I get this clunking/banging noise!! I know it sounds weird but it really does only seem to be when I go right at roundabouts or sharp corners!!

Has anyone else had a similar problem or does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?!

Many thanks,

Kim :)

Welcome to the forum Kim. Whereabouts is the noise from? From the rear? Something loose in your boot. From the front? Driveshaft, suspension, steering? Something loose under the bonnet? Does it happen on smooth or bumpy roads? A bit more description could help please.

Sorry, I was a bit vague!! It seems to be pretty much whenever I turn right at speed irrelevant of the road surface. To me the noise seems to be coming from the back, not the front. My b/f has checked the boot and nothing seems to be loose. Not know if its linked, but occasionally when I go over bumps she makes a sort of yapping sound (like a small dog barking quietly!!). Its the only way I can explain it! :lol2:

Kim,
I wonder if your exhaust system is catching on the bodywork underneath somewhere. Could be that the clearance to the left of it (looking from the back of the car) is smaller than to the right of it causing any sway in the system to close the clearance gap on right hand turns and then two surfaces touch. That could produce a clonking/squeaking noise akin to a small dogs yap.
Look for tell tale shiny surfaces either on the underside of the car, or on the exhaust. You'd do best to get it up onto a ramp rather than try to crawl about underneath.

Have a problem with my Peugeot 206 XT 1600 2003. When wheels are on full lock feels like front tyres are coming off the rims and when you turn back the other way it feels like they go back onto the rim. Makes a terrible noise and is not good Mechanics have had the car twice and can't find anything wrong. Didn't need wheel alignment. Everything appears ok in this area.Stripped down, thinking it was CVs but not. Also checked all the steering that ok.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Springman, welcome to the forum.
Our 206cc is the same on full lock but other than that we've never had a problem, well except for noisy wiper blades!
I just try to avoid using full lock - it's easier on the tyres and will avoid unnecessary scrubbing.
As for the wipers I leave them up when the car is parked in our garage and only put them down on the screen when we take the car out.

Hi All
Not been here for a while but...
Yep, we have this problem too. It hasn't always been like this and is getting progressively worse.
Feels/sounds like a flat tyre, but isn't. Nothing noticebly rubbing i.e tyre on bodywork. It's standard Eagle F1s on 16" wheels.
Does it on full lock, both to left and right, but worst when turning right.
Can't really avoid putting full lock , otherwise we'd never get the car out of the drive or parking bays in car parks! :)
Will be off the the mechanic soon (do we still call them monkeys? ;) ) but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Ta,
C.

Hi Charlie, I just put up with it on our 206cc. If your pressures are correct, and alignments ok, then I just put it down to the steering geometry on 206's. I've never had it happen on any other car. Brand new front tyres may help but I fear the problem will simply worsen again as they wear.

P.S. I suspect that mechanics (or vehicle technicians) would prefer not to be called monkeys.

Thanks Ron

It's just that we've had the car from new and the noise has only recently been noticeable. And it's now got so severe that you can't ignore it. It can only indicate a problem.

Yep, I'm sure mechs/techs would prefer they weren't called that, but there's a reason that those little animated simians are available when you type a post, and they've been available since 2003! In my experience the local Pug Dealer mechs/techs have the same level of knowledge now as they did 6 years ago. Generally they only fix something once I've identified the issue and remedy with help from this forum, and pointed ithem in the right direction. Sadly.
Still, I get what your saying, "do unto others" and all that.

Well, good news.

Well done C,
The new tyres won't scrub like worn ones do. I'm glad they've solved your problem. Thanks for reporting back the result. It may benefit others.

Eagle F1 tyres on the front wheels binding up on daughters car, made the car very unstable when going over manhole covers or uneven roads, many a technician suggested what it may be but none has sorted it, the car also sounded like the tyres were being scrubbed off the rims whenever going around tght corners, put two new £40 tyres on and car drives like new:)
