As a newcomer to the site I have been reading with a great deal of interest the various topics etc.

I am taking delivery of my 52 plate black 206cc (63,000miles, 4 previous owners) this Saturday. but having read so many items about problem cars, leaks, squeeks and the rest, I feel a change of underpants might be needed. Some of the items have caused some alarm and have eased my constipation problems!!

Seriously though, does anyone have a 206cc that has behaved itself? I'm giving up a 1964 MGB (Mid-life crisis purchase, so I'm told!) that's been reliable and easy to maintain, tax exempt....only because my wife hates it (No power steering, poor heater, noisy, uncomfortable......messes up your hair....need I say any more?)

On the plus side, I'm buying from my local SEAT dealership with 12 months SEAT warranty and my son-in-law is a technician at the garage so all might not be lost....

I'll keep you posted on how things progress.

regards to all.

Well, I wish you luck with the 52 plater with all those miles under its belt. At least you know the potential downsides. I wonder why the previous 4 owners got rid so quickly.
I sold my BMW R65 because my wife hated it and I regretted that for years.
I'll be interested to hear how you feel in a few months time.
Our 206cc is relatively young on an 05 plate with 15k miles. Nothing has gone wrong with it so far. Let's hope yours is a good'un.

Thanks Ron. Had a chat with my son-in-law at the garage today. He's been given the job of doing the full vehicle check on the 206 and has told me that the car is in very good condition, very clean underneath and nothing that would suggest harsh use.

He's replacing the rear exhaust box as there were signs of corrosion, front brake calipers to be replaced and
new pads all round. Apart from those items it's all looking very good.

Roll on Saturday!

best regards

Rick

Hi Rick,
Presumably he'll renew the brake fluid while he's working on the brakes. Needs doing every 2 years.
When the time comes to replace my exhaust I'll go for stainless.
Good luck Saturday - let's hope it stops raining soon!
Best wishes, Ron

The 206cc (1.6S Black) arrived at 3pm today, delivered by the dealership. Was told that the roof seals have now been replaced as the passenger footwell carpet was found to be rather damp after the recent rain. We'll see if that remedies the situation.

Took her for a run, A21, M25, A25 and it goes very smoothly. Slight rattle from the drivers side windows but not
intrusive and easily forgotten. Everything else seems fine. Taking her to Eastbourne tomorrow (Sunday) and chase some clouds away.

My wife and I will now be fighting over the car keys, she absolutely loves it!.......and so do I!

Ta ta for now

So glad that both you and your wife adore the car. Same in our house!

A lot of rain yesterday. 4 days into ownership and the car leaks!

Just an ickle one through the aerial aperture into the courtesy light. Needs some sealant shoved in, should solve the problem. At least I know where it's coming in from. Apart from that the car is ace and the trip to Eastbourne was delightful.

Trouble is, I tore some ligaments in my right foot this morning crossing the road on the way to work and now can't drive for a week!

My wife seemed rather pleased for some unknown reason. Memo to self: Must hide the car keys.

Is there a nut that can be tightened behind the courtesy light if the aerial base has come loose I wonder?

Yes indeedy, using a thin flathead screwdriver, released the courtesy light unit safely and then was able to release the rest of the housing. Again with flathead, removed metal plate on aerial unit, and low and behold the nut was exposed.

However, tightening did not improve the seating of the aerial so had a rumage in the garage (hobbling round with a stick) and came upon some flexable rubber compound sealant. Removed aerial assembly from car and applied sealant under aerial and then re-assembled in reverse order. Looks watertight but the proof is in the pudding.

Once it's dried, I'll test it. Results will appear soon so watch this space good buddies

Thanks again Ron.

By the way folding the wing-mirrors is far easier when you're in the car. Better to pull than push!

Good man! All those years experience of working on the "B" are being put to good use on the "cc". You're not afraid to have a go.

Thanks for the tip on folding the mirrors while you're in the car. Other members will appreciate that too I bet.

It rained again, quite heavily but the good news is, it stayed outside and nothing came through the aerial fitting. Hoorah!

Was out in the dark on Tuesday night and discovered that my Pug has the new main beam setting.
This is really useful. It illuminates everything at the side of the car and above but does nothing to throw extra light ahead.

A rather novel idea and excellent should you wish to make a hasty left or right turn through a hedge, lights them up a treat or for identifying low flying aircraft.

And now discovered this evening that the centre exhaust box is blowing. Trip to the garage tomorrow to discuss it
and have it rectified. Wonder if they'll cover the cost as I've got this feeling it ain't covered on the used car warranty. Having had the car only 3 weeks, I would hope they are sympathetic and replace offending item without flaffing around. I'll get them to adjust the main beam too.

I'll let you all know the outcome, cheers for now.

Before trundling off to the garage, I checked the headlight bulbs and found that they looked a little wonky.
Latex gloves on, bonnet up, nimble fingers sharpened and re-seat the bulbs and hey presto, main beam now works normally!

Took car to garage re the exhaust and the centre box has blown. Good news, they'll replace it under the warranty and it's booked in for next week.

That is all.....for now

Had the wheels off and checked brakes etc, looks fine and then I decided to paint all four brake calipers red using suitable paint (oooh you boy racer!) Does look smart though.

Off to the garage this Saturday to have he suspension (Drop links, AR bar bushes, Bottom ball joints & Springs) checked as it's clonking (Have noted previous entries about this)

Planning run to Greatstone by the Sea on Sunday with my car club chums for kite flying and lunch. Weather looks promising so the roof will be down! If you're a Kentish 206cc'er out and about, look for 52 plate blackie with red calipers!

That is all

Hi RevClassic

I just might be pasing Greatstone way myself on Sunday as my Mum lives in Dymchurch - I'll keep a look out! Mine is a red 1.6 with a 51 reg. :)
