Hi. Can anyone help; I have a Peugoet 206 GLX 2002, only 27,00 miles and it's got a donking, or knocking noise coming from the front, sounds like the suspension or the drive shafts. I have taken it to two garages and while they acknowledge that something is wrong, they have no idea what it is. They've had a good check underneath and found nothing.

It's quite loud and nasty and you hear it whenever you go over bumps, sounds louder on the nearside but is audible on both sides. Sounds like the wheels are loose, but of course they aren't.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Check
1. Drop links.
2. Antiroll bar bushes
3. Bottom ball joints
4. Broken spring?

:yikes: Check your front suspension springs. Drivers side of mine just failed rather dramatically! Towed to garage and BOTH are corroded. Drivers side rusted through and detatched from the fixing. Passenger side corroded and needs to be replaced. Watch this space as have already asked Peugeot for compenstaion for a £300+ repair bill.
Car is just over 6 years old, 02 plate

Our 206cc has done 25000miles and is a 52 Reg. Recently a clonking noise became apparent from the front suspension and we have been advised by the Dealer who services the car that the offside front spring has broken and that Peugeot recommend that when this occurs both springs should be replaced. The cost for this is in the region £600. I have never come across this problem at this low mileage and am not very impressed. How common is this problem? It was bad enough having to pay nearly £400 to have the roof seals replaced when the car was only 3 years old. We are wondering what will be next.

I'm afraid it is one of the prices we pay for so called traffic calming.
It is more common with European cars because of the way the spring coils are finished. On Japanese cars the springs are chamfered so they sit flat in the mounting dishes. European springs are not chamfered and so suffer more stresses. A little rust, a traffic calming hump, and bingo!
The mileage doesn't really come into it, the springs are 7 years old.
Welcome to the forum.
