Just got a 206cc... any advice?

Hello All,

Just upgraded my 1.1 peugeot 206 (first car) to a lovely 206cc. Don't pick it up until next Monday (St Patrick's Day) and am already bouncing off the walls with excitement.

Gone for 2 litre, black with black and red leathers. It's got lots of the optional extras (electric mirrors, computer, alloy wheels... etc.). It's a 52 plate with only 33000 miles on the clock.

I was really impressed with the interior of the car, considering its age it still looks new inside, its quality sealed the deal for me. Now I want to keep it this way... any advice on maintaing the leather?

Any advice in general?

Welcome to the forum Sian.

So the car is low mileage and nearly 6 years old. I'd make sure the oil and filter has not been in the engine for longer than 12 months. If it has I'd get the oil and filter changed now with proper spec oil and a genuine Peugeot filter. Otherwise the car could suffer from the usual 2.0 litre hydraulic tappets problem. Or have they already been replaced? (see your service history and receipts).

Follow the instructions very precisely when operating the roof, and only do it with the engine running.

We use Autoglym Leather Care Cream.

That's great, thanks for the advice.

The oil and filter are being changed as part of the deal from the garage. Full service, MOT and 12 month warranty. Have seen this tappet problem spoken about a lot amongst the posts... it concerns me a little. Not sure if this kind of thing would be covered by the warranty or if it's normal wear and tear.

The salesmen who showed the car to me (and eventually sold it!) put the roof down with the engine off a couple of times. Is this bad just becuase it drains the battery? I don't plan on doing it but could this have damaged the car/roof at all?

Hi again Sian,
I take it you're buying from a Peugeot dealership? You'd need to check the warranty you are buying to see if the tappet problem would be covered. Ask the salesman for written confirmation that it would be covered.
Operating the roof with the engine off won't damage it, but it can be a drain on the battery. New owners have been known to show off their roof gymnastics to all their friends only to end up with a car that won't start.
