The problem is I won't let Kwik Fit near my car to replace tyres cos they're bigger monkeys than Peugeot and are likely to jack the car up in the wrong place

so it looks like an expensive tyre fit at Mercedes when its time.

Yep they've gone up. Bought mine at an AA service centre and with member's discount they came to Â£96 I think... Â£106 without

I only managed 15,500 from my front ones and I too was sliding all over the shop, and ruts were a nightmare!

The Merc garage in canterbury got caught out when my old boss saw his prize posession in a local ATS (or somewhere like that, its opposite kwik fit on the wincheap road) It seems that they were too busy/couldnt get parts to do the exhaust so they 'subcontracted' it - and even tried to charge him the full price which was double what the garage who actually DID the work would have charged!

At last a garage with fewer morals than the pug dealer!

Lyndon is right, I dont use my racing puma I just use the fiesta. The local wild life around here at work would love to set fire to it. They did 2 cars last night just 300m up the road.

As for tyre wear, I used to have a Renault 19 16V cab and got 55,000 miles out of the tyres on that.

Stuart, get your tyres from quick fit if you need 4. You can take one of thier cards out and if you spend more that Â£100 in a single transaction (which you obviously will be doing) then you dont have to pay for them for 4 months. Its not quite such a shock to the system then.

Also ring around a few branches, some kwik-fit managers wont price match but others will as you are buying4. They will make more in bonus for 4 tyres that they lose by selling em cheap (got a freind who is a quick fit manager!!!)

Thanks for the suggestion Rob, you're right, Â£400 sounds alot better if I have to pay in 4 months (esp. as I have to cough up for the new-un next week

OMG now I'm worried, reminds me of my last warranty work, when I picked up the SLK I noticed a circular scratches on the paintwork

after they supposidly handwashed it - cos it was late I suspected they were in a hurry an bunged it in a automatic car wash. I could never prove it, but rang the dealer principal to complain and he's agreed to pay Â£50 towards having my cars paintwork compounded and re - diamondbrited.

Found out a probable reason for the price-hike.

Goodyear Eagle F1, model GSD-2 has been superceeded by the GSD-3

GSD-2 tyre price quoted by my local (independant) tyre place - Â£85 (all in)
GSD-3 tyre price - Â£99 (all in)

stuart that is correct. the gsd3 hasa much nicer tread imo as well.

but u can still get both types.
