Rachel,

Derek got an excellent deal and Gaz appears to be going to get a good one too.

Your M&S pants comparison is contractually correct, but what would you do if you had to take them back several times and the hole still was not repaired? What would happen is that M&S would replace them, but the pants would cost a few quid, not £15K! What would also happen is that M&S would return the faulty goods to the manufacturer and not pay for them! Unfortunately, a Peugeot dealer cannot do this, as their business is dependant upon the manufacturer, ie Peugeot!

A better comparison would be the purchase of a package holiday purchased from a travel agent. Here you pay the travel agent, but any dispute about the holiday is dealt direct between the customer and the tour company. The travel agent acts in the same way as a Peugeot dealer except the travel agent sells many companies products, not just the one!

I am a buyer for a construction company and purchase £millions in materials and services through merchants, factors and subcontractors. If we receive faulty goods or services, we go back to the supplier but ultimately, the manufacturer deals with the problem and agrees replacement or compensation through the supplier.

I guess in the above case, the customer has the advantage of using future business as a lever. We are purely seen as single purchase customers!

Anyway, we had written to Peugeot previously and received a case number and the name of the Customer Relations Executive, (a monkey in a suit?), dealing with it. They phoned yesterday and are phoning today once they retrieve a fax we sent from their computer system.

Interestingly enough Warwick Wright is a trading name of Robins and Day Ltd whose registered office is the same as Peugeot’s HQ – Is there a connection I wonder?!

I have not seen the articles referred to by Derek. If I don’t get a favourable result from Peugeot today, the car will probably go back to Camden. I don’t see any point in taking it all the way to Warwick Wright in London……. unless they fail to fix it … perhaps its worth a try!

Thanks for all your thoughts.

(PS GAZ, no thanks! We won't buy another Peugeot after this one!)

As you said, my comparison is contractually correct and that's what Peugeot will hide behind. They have no morals.

i sent a 6xA4 letter of complaint to peugeot and my dealer's head office by recorded delivery which if i remember right rachel/lyndon/rob have seen.

dealer h.o. acknowledged receipt within 2 days and 2 days later i received a letter from the after sales manager arranging a meeting.

peugeot never replied within two weeks - until they got an e-mail that slated their service which they replied with a feeble apology and a letter acknowledging the complaint - which they said they would pass to the dealer - the dealer that was already dealing with the complaint as they had the decency to reply.

   peugeot are a waste of space

Thanks Derek,

I have over 50 pages of correspondence to/from Warwick Wright, Camden, Peugeot and Black Horse and not got anywhere!

As pointed out previously Warwick Wright's parent company is Robins and Day Ltd whose registered office is the same as Peugeot's HQ/reg office at Coventry. Might be worth a try though!

I have faxed a 2 page letter and 2 page listing/history of the cars defects this morning to Warwick Wright and asked them to arrange to have the car .... BUT ON OUR TERMS! If they fail to fix it, we might then get somewhere. However, I guess they will have to have 2 or 3 unsuccessful attempts for this to happen!

Depending on Warwick Wright's reply, I have copies of all the correspondance ready to send to The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, What Car? and BBC's Watchdog, (god knows why because I think Anne Robinson and Nicky Campbell are the rudest, most ignorant people on TV ..... probably worked for Peugeot at some time!).

After lengthy negotiations, Warwick Wright finally agreed to our terms. They have today brought to us a 206CC 1.6S auto as a courtesy car with ¾ tank of petrol!

Well, why should we have accepted any less!

We have covered the courtesy car for the two weeks Warwick Wright say is the minimum they want the car for, (they are reimbursing our costs).

We have also requested that the car goes nowhere near their valeting area!

We have insisted the car is returned with a written report on all defects, which should all have been resolved. We will check/test and if not right, they can go back down to
London and we will keep the courtesy car!

Are we not fair and reasonable?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame Peugeot/their dealers can’t be the same!

(PS Their salesman who collected the car is in for an uncomfortable drive as the drivers door window conked out half way up yesterday. It eventually went up but not all the way and water poured in saturating the seat! Defect/problem no. 22 on the list!)

Update.....

Warwick Wright Brent Cross have had our car since 1st thing Wednesday 31st. They say they have replaced lots of parts and are waiting for more to come in - They weren't specific on what parts and we have requested a written interim report.

We are thinking of writing to the Oxford dictionary publishers to request an additional entry under 'Warranty' ..... 'a method by which a manufacturer can sell an unfinished product and then take up to 3 years to finish it at maximum inconvenience to the customer'.

GregS ...... where are those machine guns?

Warwick Wright Brent Cross, where are you?

We are still waiting!

2 weeks 3 days ......mind you, they are a Peugeot dealer - Peugeot Customer Relations must set the standards for their dealers level of customer service!

3 weeks 1 day and, you've guessed it, we still do not know what they have done to our car or when we are getting it back!

Heard nothing from Service Manager by 5pm Friday. Dealership Manager back from weeks hols Monday - Surely we would hear from him? .......Not!

Another 4 page letter telling them what we thought of them faxed yesterday morning and, we got a call from the Service Manager. The Dealership Manager did not return from holiday, he no longer works for them!

Anyway, the dealership's Peugeot rep was going to be in today and would check and test drive our car to see it was to his satisfaction, (bound to be!). They would fax me the report by 5pm .......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, sorry, fell asleep!

The only consolation is that the Service Manager has finally sent us a cheque for insuring their car for a month.

We will just have to be patient a little longer. Any more patience and we could open our own hospital ..... whoops, wrong spelling!
