your dad must know my dad - he has suggested an Audi A3 a number of times.

i don't think they know what fun means

your CC could be trouble free or it may not. my 1st CC was rejected and the 2nd one has had problems such as needing exhaust and alloys replaced under warranty and my roof wasn't working for 3 months, just got it fixed a few weeks ago but i still wouldn't swap it for an Audi A3.

just get him told you want a CC :P

Finally pursuaded my dad to at least look at a 206CC so we test drove one over the weekend. My dad wanted us to drive one that wasn't brand new so we could get an idea of what it would be like after a year or so. After both having a test drive we came up with a list of "issues". Most of these were actually noticed by my dad, I think I was so excited driving it to actually notice any of these!

First of all the brakes seemed really squeaky when using them in traffic is this normal? When the car was first started there was a faint metalic vibrating noise (my dad thought it might be an exhaust heat shield?) and this seemed to get louder as the engine got to around 3000RPM.

The roof was fine although seemed a bit noisier than my dad's friends SLK but when the roof was put back up it didn't make the ding noise. Is it supposed to make this noise or does it only happen when the roof is put down?

Apart from that there seemed to be more squeeks and rattles than I expected although I guess this is down to the fact that is a convertible and once the roof is down it seems nice and quiet (although I noticed the windows rattling when they were down).

So is this what I can expect a 206CC to be like or was this just a bad example?

Squeaky brakes is definitely a characteristic of the 206cc!

My Dad was like that too, he hates foreign cars, don't ask me why (it must be a dad thing!) I've just bought my 206cc Quicksilver and picked it up on Friday, now my Dad thinks it's the bees knees, he wants me to get it all kitted out now...take your Dad to see one, let him get in it and get a feel for the car, trust me once he sees that sexy, shiney new car he won't be able to resist and if it's new anyway it will be covered with a warranty for three years so he's got nothing to worry about!! ;)

What car isnt without its problems.

I had a list of reasons why not to get this car yet i kept drooling over it... Im a total gadget lover and get bored with things within 24 hours of having them, yet i still love this car after ages.

Face it, it's in your nature to get this baby, you want it... your dads jealous of your youth, enjoy it while you can mate! plenty of time for boring cars in later life :D

Just had a look at the for sale section on this site and I can't believe the number of people trying to sell CC's at the moment!

Rather worrying as most of them are not much more than a year old, are people selling them because this is when the problems start?

Quite possibly or that we are a fickle lot and once the trend of driving a 206cc has gone we look at other cars?

Are these the same dad's that think Heartbeat's a quality programme? (Mine's watchin it now & he's against cc's aswell!)

Best to get a car with warranty & keep schtum about any faults...you'll only get the 'I told you so' groan everytime you mention the car otherwise. Another good idea is to surf the net & find all the bad information you can on the A3, then tell your dad this has only fuelled your longing for a 'quality' car like the cc!!!

Try telling him all cars come with faults, hence the warranty provided. Plus the fact that you'd rather be happy with a tempremental car, than miserable with a reliable one. Just a thought. Good luck. :D

If I had listened to my parents on cars, I'd never have bought the cars I've had. Suffice to say, my Dad has secretly enjoyed driving them when I've gone on holiday! In the name of looking after it for me, you understand ;)

Finally, when I bought my cc only a couple of months ago...my Dad gave up and said only good stuff - but its taken him 20 years to do that!

The A3 is a nice car...but boring and big. Ask your Dad what car he'd have had when he was 21? Would he have gone for boring..I doubt it...he'd have wanted fun like the rest of us! Some serious manipulation or coersive negotiation is required!! :D

my mum and dad were only against the CC because of what it cost. they never knew then that i would be spending nearly another £3k doing it up and buying a number plate - neither did i when i think about it right enough :D

i said at the time it was a one-off and i wouldn't be able to afford a car at that price again  that is true in a way as the next car will be a lot more expensive :P

Someone tell me why parents always think they know best...???? :?

I'm a parent...but I'm not paranoid about my 3yr old quad biking or go karting. If his Dad has his way, he'll be a grand prix driver!

Ok, in response to your Dads "issues"....

squeaky brakes - a common fault with the 206cc - should be fixable with new brake pads (probably best off with non Peugeot ones).

the rattling noise you describe could well be the exhaust manifold that again is known to crack. Mine did pretty much as soon as I got my car but it was replaced and was fine afterwards (some people on here have gone through 2 or 3 though!). The manifold will be replaced free under warranty so no problem apart from the inconvenience if it keeps needing to be replaced!

The roof is noisier than the SLK - but what does he expect it's cheaper!

The ding noise doesn't always work. Mine didn't always ding but I never had a problem with the roof getting stuck, not working etc

Yes there are quite a few squeaks and rattles but hey when the roof is down who cares :D Most of the squeaks can be cured by regularly using some lube on the roof/window seals. The rattles can be fixed by turning the stereo up ;)

I'm glad I owned my 206cc for a year or so but I don't know if I could've stuck my Dad saying 'I told you so' everytime I took it back to the Dealer to be fixed.

Have you been for a test drive in an A3 yet?
