I cant be bothered to check but doesnt the highway code say you HAVE to turn your fog lights on if adverse weather conditions cause visibility to drop below some piddly amount? two points arise:
1. In the night you cant see 'clearly' to this distance with or without fog lights, hence visibility has been reduced by the seasonal darkening of the sky
2. If you are under so much pressure to ensure the fog lights are on ewhen they should be then just say your front screen was misted up and you mistook this for fog!

Not as far as I know. It may (or may not) say that they SHOULD (not MUST) but there's no law REQUIRING the use of fog lights, only one requiring that they're NOT used. Hence your two questions are invalid.I cant be bothered to check but doesnt the highway code say you HAVE to turn your fog lights on if adverse weather conditions cause visibility to drop below some piddly amount?

By memory i think article 201 of the highway code demands that you turn them on? Certainly did last time i checked.
as for anyone who suggests that fog lights dazzle other drivers - dont even bother with that argument as 4x4 drivers dazzle much more than any fog light, and fog lights generally dazzle FAR less than normal headlights. Fog lights (when properly adjusted) only increase short distance wide angle vision and i ALWAYS turn them on while travelling along country lanes!

"You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves."
As I said; there's no REQUIREMENT to use fog lights. It's also ILLEGAL to use them when visibility is not seriously reduced - and that doesn't mean at night down a country lane.
Well they damn well dazzle me.as for anyone who suggests that fog lights dazzle other drivers - dont even bother with that argument
Don't complain when you get a £30 fine then. Since they only increase "short distance wide angle vision" you shouldn't need them. The reason they dazzle is not the distance but the pattern. Dipped beam lights are angled down and to the side which means away from oncoming or preceding drivers. Main beam and fog lights are angled straight ahead.Fog lights (when properly adjusted) only increase short distance wide angle vision and i ALWAYS turn them on while travelling along country lanes!
