ive just tried the lights and they do come on . i might try the bsi reboot the way you've said as the one i did involves disconnecting the battery ?

If the brake lights worked, you WILL find the +12V on the two pins of the connector, so it's not the ignition key, or the wiring from that to the BSI.
However, I have seen it said that the first reboot does not always work, and it sometimes takes three reboots to clear a problem, so no harm in trying that again.

hi just thought id tell the nice people who helped me that the problem has been resolved . it was the chip in the key fob , put a new case on the key but didn't see the little chip that goes in it as well as the circuit board sooo , doh that will teach me to be more carefull ha ha . thanks for the help anyhow people .....

Well, that's something new learned - the immobiliser cuts off power to the relay-fed fuses in the engine compartment fusebox.
