OK. I only ask because I paid attention to the rpms this morning and noticed that a gear change didn't happen until way over 2000rpm, almost 3000 at times. When I drive my partners bmw 1 series auto its hardly ever over 2000 before a gear change?
But Im not to getting the cam belt done asap as that sounds scary should it break!!

If you are doing only 18 miles per day then, especially in winter, virtually all of these will be with a scarcely warmed up engine. Running a car with a cold engine will result in heavy fuel consumption, a greater degree of engine wear, and the electronic management control systems will not allow the gearbox to change up at lower revs.
Furthermore, is the BMW a petrol or a diesel? The diesels have particularly low revving engines. Don't forget that maximum torque on your 1.6 Peugeot is not achieved until 4000 rpm so it is quite a high revving engine anyway. That is not a fault, just a feature of the Peugeot engine. When it changes up at nearly 3000 rpm it is designed to be in the usable torque range of the higher gear it is changing into.
As for the cam-belt - it is not only scary if it breaks - it is extremely expensive!

Sounds about right to melipsion wrote:I have filled it up and reset the mile counter. So far a quarter of a tank got me 48 miles!!?
If i brim the tank at the pump, it reads 7/8th full.
i get about 50 miles until 3/4, 140 at 1/2 and about 300 when the Orange light comes on. At that point I've got about 12 litres left in the tank.
As has been said, make a note at the pump and do the math, its much more accurate

Thanks for all your responses, been very helpful.
Just a bit sad coz I want to love this car!
Hopefully I will get a better idea when the tanks empty. (I'll post when that happens)
And I'm on the cam belt!!!

Wait til the sun comes out, and you can have the roof down. You will love it then!
