I've been meaning to post this for ages...
Get your hosepipes under those rear wheel arches, you will be surprised at the amount of dirt which accumulates, also try and get into the plastic protection which seems to be on the inside. On the offside, water and debris may come out of around the fuel filler cap (as mine does..) The first time I bothered I was shocked at the amount of crap up there.

Think about this then.
The plastic bits protect the metal against stone chips etc. What they also do though, is trap dirt behind them.
Dirt traps moisture - moisture and steel don't mix very well...
