Hi there all, my girlfreind has a 2 litre cc and it only gives out 29 mpg?? Is this normal or is it because of her driving style (touchy sub :D ) or is there a fault wi the car.
Thanks

Regards Neil

You could always try scrolling down a bit and reading the topics on MPG ;)

29 mpg isn't too bad.
My Gti gives about 32 with a bit of foot to the floor but it's mainly along urban roads.
I don't drive to the shops or do silly short runs so it gets warmed up.

If she's doing just short runs then 29 is to be expected.

Well Peugeot claim just over 35mpg for the 2.0. I never got that out of mine even when I was trying to drive sensibly ;)

35mpg is attainable. I've had 36 mpg from my GTi on a run so i guess Pugs official figures are with it warmed up.
I reckon i can get near to 40mpg coz on the tankful that gave me 36mpg i almost redlined it in fifth briefly (showing 136mph on speedo) and i was mostly driving about 75-80mph.
Stick to between 50mph and 60mph and i reckon 40mpg is possible.

my average used to be 32.5mpg but that included quite a few runs at high speed including over 100mph

not doing that now due to my latest penalty points and keeping below 80mph due to my steering being knackered so am averaging 35.7mpg the now

This is similar to another thread, which has now got me checking what mpg I am getting for different driving styles.

I am pretty amazed to find I can virtual double the amount of miles per amount of petrol.

Although this isn’t the best way to calculate it. I have been checking the mileage at each 1/4 on the fuel gauge. The first half tank was doing loads of town driving and when the car was cold. I got about 100 miles out of half a tank, which works out at about 24mpg.

The next 1/4 tank I got about 90 miles out of the car. Driving along dual carriageways between 50 and err 70 mph. This works out to be just over 42 mpg.

I think a problem with people that have moved up in engine sizes, say from a 1.4l to a 2.0l, is that people tend to over-rev the larger engine as they are not use to the increased torque. Also remember that any auxiliary equipment is going to eat in the mpg.

I have posted 2 questions on the MPG of other members cars.
When i first got mine i was getting 70miles for half a tank of fuel :( .
The car went back twice and the secound time they re-did the computer and now the MPG is around 117 for half a tank :? .
Many people have said that its the way you drive, the car having to be run in and that the car needs to warm up!
Many of the above will help but in the end if you dont feel happy with what you are getting then take it back to the dealer and ask then to have a look at it.
I have been doing a post where you post your information on the type, miles completed, year and eng size and from what i can see the miles completed (2000 or more) seems to play a part in you getting a better MPG.

seems 32mpg is pretty much the norm now. I got roughly the same driving sensibly, then about 26/7mpg driving a heavier footed.
