Hi, I brought my car into Warwich wright City (peugeot dealer) today to have my car checked out as Ive experienced a loss off power thou the gears and terrible fuel economy. Over the phone I was told it would a £40 inspection charge, which i agreed to however after detailing all the numerious problems i,e lumpy acceleration, sidelight failure, handbrake travells too high, squeaky brakes etc I was told it would cost £80 as it would take an hour to inspect.
I relutantly agreed as i knew some of it would be covered by the warrenty. Several hours pass and I recieve a phone call stating a problem was found with the ignition coil and that it was covered by the warrenty, great I thought.
Then the charges for the brakes £110, handbrake ajustment £40, to fix the side light £17!!!!! plus the inital inspection charge!

Has anyone here been charged the inpection fee whilst in warrenty? If not I will refuse to pay this and at least I can afford to fix the rest.

Many thanks Peter :(

I had a few 'under warranty' repairs but they didn't charge me for anything.

I brought my car second hand so dont kow which deal it orginated from. Will one dealer honour the warrenty of another without charge?

Has any one got another dealer to fix their car without charge under warrenty?

Hi!

Your warranty is with Peugeot not with the dealer. I bought my CC second hand from a Subaru dealer - its 2 years old - and have had work carried out under warranty, free of charge, by the local Peugeot dealer.

If they check your car out and find a fault thats covered under warranty then they cant charge you anything.

The only way they can charge you for time spent searching for a problem is if:

a) They find nothing wrong with the car
b) The fault is not covered by the warranty

You have had a mixture of work done but the majority of diagnostic work will almost certainly be to do with the ignition coil

Thanks guys, I'll bear all this in mind when I go on monday to collect the car. I did speak to the service dept today and quized him about the inpection charge and like you said, it only applies if no fault is found. He agreed to half the inpection fee to £40 as I said it was unreasonable. Nevertheless on monday I will refuse flat out. Ayt least i will try. Im useless at negotiating

again thanks everyone :D

tell them to jump ......

i could see the point if they never found anything but not as they did. if they still insist on charging ask for the address of peugeot customer services and they should change their mind on the spot ;)

we should get paid for taking our car to the dealer as it's soooo stressful. i'm not even taking mines back to the dealer i bought it from as i'm so close to knocking someones lights out so it's not worth the risk :D

the £40 for the handbrake is the best bit. i have had monkeys trying to charge that from me before. it was mentioned at my last service but just ignored them and got someone to do it for free - took no time at all.

I had my handbrake adjusted several times without being charged for it. And how can they charge you to look at/fix the squeaky brakes. I thought the 'new' pads were an official fix from Peugeot ie they admitted there was a fault with the old ones - so therefore they should be replaced for free?

Our local dealer replaced the front squeakers but won't replace the rears as they say the rears don't squeak. Utter bollocks of course, so will be taking to another dealer to get the rears done...

As for the charges from Peter206's dealer, tell em to get stuffed, bloody rip-off merchants. They need reporting. Or shooting.
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

It is true that if a fault is not found, then they will charge you for looking for the problem, but as for the problems you listed it seems to me that it should not have taken them to long to find any of the problems.
My 206cc is new and has only done 1400 miles and my brakes are starting to make a noise and it will be going back to the dealer for them to be replaced on the 6 months service, my car as been back twice for the MPG and i have not been charged for them to find out the problem.
let me know how you get on with you MPG and how they fixed it.

just got my car back today, bloody monkeys went and replaced my flashy ice blue LED sidelights with standard ones - when all i asked them to do was fix the left one which probably wasnt pushed in proper.
Not only have they charged my £17 labour plus £4 for the bulbs - they've gone and 'lost' them. IM really pissed off. However they did concede and deduct the rediculious £17 labour for fitting them.
Bringing the total to £85, £40 for the inspection and £40 handbrake, which i suppose is reasonable as they did the ignition coil work for free.

Also picked up a 206cc keyring and found the part number for the elusive armrest 9652yn, which is abit dear at £60. may order it after payday

More to the point, the igition coil replacement seems to have improved the pick up speed, but fuel economy remains poor but then it could be all physcological - constantly monitoring the MPG dispay as you rev/drive doesnt help :? The last time I filled up (£32) I managed 180 miles on a 2.0 SE. is that right? I hope not.

 I thought my MPG was low @ 25-27, but I got 260 miles from £32 when I checked. And nearly all my driving is short trips and around town (average MPH was 15 - says it all for Bristol!).
