OK so it's not on a 206CC... but all my pads need changing on my 306 HDi (has disks/pads on both front & back wheels).

Got a quote from local Pug dealer for £184

So I investigated, and found I could buy Mintex pads (better than Pug standard pads) for £36 locally. I looked at fitting them myself but realised I didn't have the right equipment, so I've got someone coming over to fit them for £40. Total saving of £108! Mint!

PS All manuals/guides etc say that my HDi should have a Bosch braking system. However, I've actually got Lucas, which is the same setup as the GTI-6 and the S16! Excellent!

and you get the satisfaction of a job well done.
What's more important though? the fact you have new pads of who actually fitted them?
So what tools are needed to fit new pads?? Anything special other than normal socket set etc?

IIRC the rear pistons need a special tool to compress them. Not sure whether you need special tools for the front.

I think the majority of the work can be carried out with a hammer, screwdriver and a socket set. However, I only have the jack that cmoes with the car and I wouldn't be happy working under the car unless I had proper axle stands etc.

Also, yeah I think you need something to open up the rear calliper. The final straw was that I could fnie no mention of my particaulr setup (Lucas) in any Haynes manual or a few other I looked at, otherwise I may well have gone for it.

But basically, I saved £108 quid and got the job done properly with some decent pads on. Several years back the same Pug garage who quoted me the £184 replaced my disks and "forgot" to tighten the calliper bolts, meaning that 3 miles later, the calliper fell off the car and locked up the right wheel as I was going over a hill on Ilkley Moor. By some complete miracle I managed to skid the car to the side of the road, not hitting anyone or anything.

Lucky really - if I had gone the other way I would have been doing 70mph down a dual carriageway at the time :(

Bastards!
