I always stay in my apartment.
no joke !! a freind of mine works in NY but is often jetting about, I have the keys to his place and he doesn't like it to stand empty.
depends on your price range col, if you want something budget go for some of the best western places.

We went in May for the last 3 days of our honeymoon and stayed for 3 nights just off the South West corner of Central Park (Columbus Circle for those who know it) at the West Park hotel.
The room was small with no view (just the buildings opposite), but the hotel was clean and the staff were good and we spent most of our time touring the city anyway so it was just a base. Best of all it only cost a total of £222 including taxes - have a look on Expedia, sorting by location and price, which is what we did to find this one.
I have previously stayed at the Hilton on Ave of Americas and the Palace (think its changed names now) opposite St Paddy's cathedral, which were nicer but much more expensive - save your money and do a show on broadway instead (I can recommend Billy Joel's Movin Out) .

Yeah, the area to the south and west of Central Park is cool.
There's an area called Hell's spamspam - the accommodation there is good but cheap.
We stayed at the Washington Jefferson 318 W. 51st St

Best bet for a good hotel at a cheap price is at
www.priceline.co.uk
I use it for all my US & Euro Hotels, you can normally get a 4* like Hilton or a decent Marriott for about £20 a night prepaid thru Priceline (Using the free£10 Bonus offer they have),
OK you don't get to choose the hotels you get but all are top notch at about 20% of the normal price
I am in Berlin next week and through Priceline got the 5* Swissotel for £29 a night (Normal website rate is nearly £170 a night!)
Give it a try, I have booked over 400 nights through them over the past 3 years!

WOW what a great site vicky cheers, So what exactly happens do you just name a price and they'll come back if they have something? Are you then comitted to take the hotel or can you reject it and try again?
i remember a friend getting a half price flight from HK last year and she used this site too.
Thanks again!!

Hi
Yes you are commited to the price once you make the bid, so always better to bid low and go up slightly,
for some great advice check out this site
www.cleverbidding.com that is a discussion board where you will see bids that have already been accepted by others and some good useful advice on how to make the cheapest accepable bid
Good Luck
Regards

Hi Sorry forgot to add the link
Go to
www.cleverbidding.com
At the top of the page there is a logo of a guy with a spyglass, click on that and it will take you to a booking page, from there £10 will be added to every bid you make, (You need to use that link each time you make a new bid),
Or if you look on the clever bidding site, at the bottom there is a link for bonus money links, there is also one in there as well
Regards

......or if you prefer a roof over your head and a nice warm bed try hanging around the streets and bars of Chelsea (14th and 23rd streets to the west of Broadway) where I am reliably informed what you will find at least one kind gentleman who will be willing to offer you a bed for FREE!!!
