Hi All,

I wonder if you could help me...

I finally got Peugeot to admit that my car was on their warranty database, but they believe that the car was first registered in April 2002, "and our database is never wrong".

The build date sure seems wrong to me, as the car only arrived in the UK in December, also the inside of the roof has a couple of stickers on it saying "date du fin d'assemblage 10/10/2002" - which seems to translate to me as "build complete 10th Oct 2002". The bill of sale from the French dealer (to the UK Car supermarket) says October 2002 too.

Obviously this difference affects the cars warranty end date. How can I argue this further? Is there something official welded/stamped into the car that gives the build date? (Peugeot are not likely to believe stickers).

I see our Aussie friends have a plate stating the buiuld date welded into the boot, but I cannot see somthing similar in my UK spec car, is there one somewhere else?

Thanks,

(Another) Dawn

The warranty will run from the date of sale by the dealer. The car could have been built in 1995 but if it was only sold to you yesterday, then yesterday is when your warranty period runs from.

Ignore the build date; ignore the registration date. It's the date of sale that matters.

Hi

I would say you were both right. From my understanding the warrenty starts from when Peugeot (or their agent) sell the car. In the case of UK cars that's when you pick it up from the dealer. For imports that's when they sell it to the car supermarket. What does your bill of sale from Peugeot look like? Does it have the supplying dealership/concessionaire name on a Peugeot looking document (that's what mine looks like).

I certainly don't believe that a car that had waiting lists in April 2002 sat on a parking lot for 6 months plus before it was sold to you.

Where exactly is this sticker? We can have a look at ours to see if we have the same. Just in case I'd take a photo of the sticker (incase it gets wet etc etc).

Cheers

Jason

Which is exactly what I said ;-)

The warranty starts from the date of sale by the dealer. Whether the dealer sells it direct to you, another dealer, a car supermarket, or you neighbour's dog is irrelevant :D

Sorry, I though you were were trying to say it was from the date the car supermarket sold it. Not a problem for CC's but there have been cases where cars have been sitting on a supermarket forecourt for 6 months and new owners found they had lost 6 months of warrenty.

Cheers

or worse still, take their car in for the 6 month service to find they're way too late and invalidate their warranty

Hi again

A bit of an update.

We gave up looking for the build number on Friday when it got too dark but found loads of stickers saying that different bits were done in October 02. Went to local dealer the following day and the service guy was able to tell me from my chassis number that the build date was 23/10/02 (apparently the date is in code on the driver's door upright).

Tried Peugeot Customer relations (?) again today, not very useful so are now trying to get hold of the original invoice from the car supermarket (rather than the proforma which we already have).

Apparently we aren't registered on their database, they must have typed it in wrong on Friday.

They told us at one point we would have to speak to Peugeot in France (I think not!).

Anyway, hopefully we're a bit further forward because this time last week we didn't even have a service book!

Thanks for your help,

(Another) Dawn
