Hi,
The last oil change, I used 5/40w oil in my car and it now needs a top up.
The display on the dash has dropped one segment and it's just over 3/4 on the dipstick.
In the shed I've got a few tubs of unused 10/40w semi synthetic oil that I used on my old car.
It seems a shame and waste it just sitting there and was wondering could I use this to top my cars engine oil up.
Kind Regards,
Johnny

Re: Which oil for my 2 litre petrol 206cc
Hi - the haynes manual for the Peugeot 206 engines recommends -
SAE 10W40, 5W40 or 0W40 Multigrade engine oil to ACEA A3 and API SJ/SL specification* (petrol engines)
However - the car handbook recommends - 10W40 / 5W30 / 5W40 / 0W30
I have always used 5W30 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil and the engines been quite happy.
Regards
Mark

Many thanks Mark for replying.
As you say it seems quite confusing, with all the different oil grade recommendations.
I ended up buying some 5w/30 to top it up ,but when it's been used up I will use the 10/40w that's sitting in the shed going unused.
These engines do tend to use a drop of oil from what I can gather.
It's most probably why they put the oil level display inside, on the dash as well as a dipstick to use.
That combined with a gauge showing the oil temp suggests to me they can use a drop or two of oil.
When I first bought the car , I immediately thought having an oil level and oil temp gauge on the dash was a bit overkill for what is essentially a pretty standard non high performance engine, but I can now see the logic in it.
It tends to drop a segment on the dash or 3/4 on the dipstick every 3000 miles.
All the very best,
Johnny.
