Abs headache

Post by trikerjim »

Evening all. Well after 4 years of ownership and reletively trouble free motoring this year's mot was not so much of a shock. Just cost 300 for new exhaust, new spring, anti roll bar, cv boots tyres and other things. Biggest prob is abs light. The mot garages scanner just showed a fault but not at which wheel. Took it to Stoneacres to one of the guys I know and he had a scanner that wouldn't show a fault, but did a live wheel test or something on the scanner by driving 20 yards and confirmed near side rear wheel wasn't reading a speed . I checked the wiring for breaks all looks ok. Disconnected sensor and tried to remove it but it was stuck fast and broke up, so tomorrow I will have to try get that out, toothed ring is clean and not got a visible cracked or anything. Is it normally just the sensors, or should I change the ring while I am at it, and if I should, how the hell do you get that off. Is there a way of checking the plug on the loom where the new sensor will connect to to make sure everything is ok, electrically , up to the plug. Many thanks
Jim

99% of the time a *no reading* from one wheel will be a sensor. As you have already broken it, replace that first and worry about other stuff if it doesn't fix it.
Visually you should be able to see a faulty relucter ring

You were absolutely right.
It was the sensor. 14 quid from car parts shop, drilled the old sensor out its hole, fitted new one, drove 20 yards and light went off . Happy days
