Pulley/Tensioner Number?

Post by finn67 »

Don't you just love terminology variations from not just manufacturers but simple part suppliers too.

I don't know if I'm looking for the pulley, tensioner, tension pulley, alternator pulley or whatever!! it's bending my head just to locate one and how insane are the Fleabay ads which apparently EVERTHING fits the Pug 206 cc ????

I had a similar situation with Vauxhall's IDS suspension, they all fit until you queried the part, then oh sorry it won't fit .... Well make that CLEAR on the advert

If anyone can assist, I replaced the belt at the front of the cover, I call it auxiliary belt, but it could be the battery compartment for all I have seen today!!

Sarcasm aside - Had the common chirping associated with a slipping belt, replaced but not fixed the chirp (Oh and I've replaced the clutch and release bearing) I stuck my stethoscope on and isolated the noise to the wheel on the pulley you push/pull to relieve the tension on the belt to remove it - I want to undo the bolt holding the wheel on (13mm?) remove that wheel and replace with a new one - what I cannot seem to do is find what the wheel is called to find the part number to buy one?

In my experience I'm looking for the pulley that's it? Anyone more in the know with Peugeot narrow my field to a single part with OEM number please - it will be greatly appreciated Thanks

Sorry for rant - should be past being surprised at these things... :o

Sorry almost forgot... Pug 206 cc 54 plate 1.6 - 16 valve engine

Auxiliary belt tensioner. As far as I'm aware, you can only get it as an assembly.
Cheers Col.

There are three listed for that engine ... call your local Peugeot or Citroen dealer with your reg or VIN no and ask for the price .. and then ask for the part number so you can keep a record. They also change over time and are replaced with improved parts often with different part nos. I think, and don't quote me on this, you want a 5751A2.

Trouble is with fleabay the people selling aren't experts and so they haven't clue what they have .. even breakers wouldn't know what fits what ... "came off a car like that mate" ...

If you want a part no., you must quote the last eight digits of your VIN. It's explicit - nothing else is.

Sorry lads I have a condition and have been down for two days... Gazza sorry I don't seem to be able to PM yet? Strange as I have registered.
Is it OK to put the VIN number on here in a public domain?

Col I was beginning to think that myself you know, I don't think the pulley comes away separately... Seems crazy but without detailed information I'm uncertain....
