Just bought a 206CC in Spain ...

Post by RuffledParrot »

Hi there - I've taken the plunge and bought a 206CC to use regularly here in NE Spain. It was cheap, one reason being it comes with no service history, just its ITV (MOT) record, which at least bears out its mileage over the past ten years. So off it will go to my trusted local garage, aiming to start again with a clean sheet. Advice, please, on creating the 'to do' list. So far, I've got: change timing belt / check clutch at the same time; change engine oil; all filters; check brakes. New spark plugs? The engine is as quiet as a whisper, windows and hood work and no leaks; virtually new tyres. With the number of miles (km) noted below, what else would you say should be covered now, given the lack of history? And is there a way I can get hold of an owner's handbook (not workshop manual), as this also, maddeningly, is missing! Any other helpful thoughts most welcome! Thanks, all.

You can download a pdf copy from the site or fleabay have them

If you fit new plugs I'd recommend Bosch Super 4s if you can get them.

Check suspension arms esp balljoint rubbers and cvboots for cracking

Great - thanks. Just need to find the Spanish translations for ball joint rubbers and cv boots!

Good to know Ebay's a possibility. Before I manage the download in the meantime could you let me know tyre pressures? Normal as well as Full load / Fast driving would be fab.

Thanks again!

Tyre pressures should be on the label on the door shut. I think I tend to use 2.3bar on our 2.0 which has 205/45R16 tyres.

I THINK the smaller 15" tyres are the same but oddly enough it doesn't mention them in the handbook or the Haynes workshop manual! Refer to the label it says!

Thanks - being rather tall, I probably wouldn't have noticed the tyre pressure label for months! Anyway, in it goes for that big service on Tuesday.

I've bought a replacement gear lever knob - having read various posts, can you go through the 'taking off' process again? Is it unscrew anti-clockwise, then grit teeth and pull up hard?

Oh yes - downloaded the handbook, and awaiting hard copy from EBay.

Thanks for being here!
