2003 206cc Electrical Issues

Post by vertigo »

Hi everyone

I have just recently bought a 2003 206cc, the 2 litre one and I'm having a slight issue with it....

The first thing I noticed was that the remote wasn't working, so naturally thought the battery had gone so I replaced that, still no joy. So I came on here and found that I might need to reprogram the remote after changing battery so I did that and still no joy.

Which brings me on to the main issue with the car and why I think the remote isn't working.... When I first start the car in a morning or any time I start it, all the clocks have reset (date, time, radio etc) almost like the battery has been disconnected, but when the car is running everything electrical works just fine, the central locking works ok with the switch on the dashboard, radio works ok without having to put a code in, roof works as do windows and it drives just fine.

Now I did a little test last night to check something and found out that, when the ignition is off nothing actually works, no interior light, not even hazards work, so its like when I turn the car off, it cuts the power to everything on the car, which is why I'm guessing that the clocks have reset everytime I start the car, which is why I'm also guessing that the remote isn't working too.

So this is why I've come on here to find out if anyone knows what it could be and if its a simple fix or not, or if I have to take it to auto electrician.... Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks guys

Thanks for the answer but I'd already checked all the fuses and they're ok and there isn't any missing either

Have you got the correct 190mm tall battery on it or has some cheapskate fitted a 175mm tall one that is made for the hatchback?

The fuses can be hard to see the breaks. Not all burn out fully.

It does sound like the one has gone .. there is one in the internal fuse box that controls everything and if that is failing it might try to go into ECO mode and then can't. I'd check them all with a meter for continuity. Check the battery connections too as GM suggests .. although if the terminal was pulling loose it isn't likely to re-attach itself. The quick release one on the positive terminal is always my first suspect!

Or some numbty has rewired the car so it kills the permanent live feed.
