Thermostat Renewal
Engine is running cool so after76K miles I assume it is the thermostat that is lazy.I also assume that it is where the radiator top hose goes into the block.Just looks like two small nuts.Anybody any tips?

Re: Thermostat Renewal
That is the general location but they differ depending on the engine size/type.
What engine is it?
What engine is it?

Can't see engine number plate anywhere,I assume the engine is the standard EW10.

Re: Thermostat Renewal
I think jeffluent has a 2.0 litre 206 SW gazza. So the thermostat should be where he suspects it to be.

Thanks Grandad Monkey. If you don't mind I will freeload on this site because the GTi forums are s..t and the SW Si engine and running gear seem to be identicato the cc.

Re: Thermostat Renewal
Just changed the thermostat.Very easy. Not only was the thermostat rod bent, there was also a bit of gasket stuck in it.Car now runs at 90c rather than 70c.Cost £16.Cooling fan also works since bodge repair so quite pleased with self.

Re: Thermostat Renewal
A bit more on this topic. When I was testing the repair on the fan I started the engine to let it warm up.I noticed that the top hose to the radiator was getting warm almost immediately which confirmed my suspicion that the thermostat was duff. Now the thermostat lives behind the top hose outlet and is thus horizontal. These can be a pig to refit as the thermostat and the gasket want to fall forward as you are refitting the elbow. The new one I bought from a main dealer came all in one piece.Thermostat and elbow with the rubber gasket sealed to it.Doddle to fit.Just two bolts.
