Car juddering / sticking

Post by Meesh »

My car since winter has started to judder a bit mainly in 1st and 2nd gear when pulling off, well it's hard to explain but it feels like it's sticking as it doesn't move anywhere fast except for 'bunny hopping' forward and then all of a sudden it will shoot forward quickly! It only randomly does this when it feels like it, other times it's fine!
I had a full service on it a few weeks back and the mechanic said it's in brilliant condition and running well but mentioned the jumping it does, he said whoever had the car before has put a non genuine catalystic converter part on it which is causing the problem. He said if I'm happy to put up with it then he would do so as it costs about £600 to replace but even though it's annoying it's not damaging the car.

My step dad drove the car tonight and seemed it disagree with what the mechanic said about it being that problem! Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this? My car starts well and runs fab besides this problem. It's quite an issue at roundabouts sometimes when you want to quickly pull off and the car doesn't get anywhere quick then suddenly shoots off without warning!

I don't know much about cars, I won't lie! But could do with some advice if poss. Thanks.

(And no it's not my driving :P )

Assuming it's a petrol model, it could be coil pack.

Has it had the correct Bosch plugs put in it? They didn't use NGK ones I hope. Peugeots like the correct spark plugs and often won't run correctly otherwise.

Thanks all! No idea what plugs it's got I'll ask one of the blokes in the house to look as I haven't got a clue! Haha. Yes it is a petrol model Capncol.

Handy andy - yes I got quoted £600 as my mechanic thinks I have a non genuine catalyst converter part on from previous owner. However I have had it nearly 3 years and it hasn't always done it. He said for genuine part it would be approx 600 but if I can make do then just to put up with it as no point changing it and that it won't harm my car.
It does sound a little similar to the problem yours has and sometimes will make a banging noise as it does the jumping/sticking part which sounds like it's coming from the exhaust.
Will look into the options people have suggested! Thank you.

You think a different make of spark plug will behave differently. I disagree. I agree that the problem described could be due to poor firing.
Myself I think this stuff about the CAT is a load of bull. Well I hope it is because my car has the same symptoms lol. I was thinking myself along the same lines as GrandadMonkey and the problem is somewhere in the ignition. I had a similar thing with a fiesta with a dodgy spark plug lead.

I'm with GM on this one. Known 206 problem. Some makes of plugs and coilpacks don't like one another.
