thermostat?

Post by oggy30 »

 Hi to all, just joined. I bought a cc 1.6 16v 2002 & found out quite quickly that finding a manual is a joke. I want to bring it right back to good working order. So due to some overheating I thought I'd change out the thermostat. Taking off the housing I found no stat. Then started to drain the cooling system & found that I needed to locate some bleed screws. Think I found them? I'm thinking maybe there has been a mod to the rad at some point. Maybe using the temp sender & bypassing the stat? I would really appreciate some help with this, it is driving me mad. Thanks

Think that runs a bypass t/stat. You will have cooling probs if it is missing.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think I should go ahead & refit the stat? To be honest, I was mythed at there not being one. Never seen that before. Can it do any damage by fitting one? I've just been out to look behind what I think is the stat housing & can see a blue sender unit, so am I looking in the right place here?

Car details- 2002. 206 cc 1.6 16v. 91000 miles. 5 speed manual. No bad engine noise, no leaks. serviced last year. Body in good condition. so not too bad really. should also add the expansion tank has been discolored with brown almost rust like crap.

T/stat is at opposite end of ally housing to the blue plug (take off the black plasic housing)

Sounds like the system needs flushing if it is brown and gungy.
Cheers Col.

They get removed to mask a problem or it has failed and the previous owner can't be a%@#ed to replace it.

thanks for the advice. Nothing worse than flying blind! I was re-filling the coolant system & it seemed to only take about 4Lts? That don't look right to me. I undid the bottom hose & the top hose, but my gut tells me I need to do more. If it's a case of draining elsewhere, then I'm stuck again. I don't even know the coolant capacity, this manual gives diff amounts. Guys-once again, your advice is needed. Thanks for your time too. I am not giving up sorting cheeky charlie (CC), out. :!:
