horn worked intermitantly have tried to remove centre boss haynes just says remov carefully but it will not pull off any suggestions

Centre boss and horn push is an AIR BAG, or have you got that off? Have you made sure it's not the connections at the horn(s) that are corroding?
On older cars (pre-mux) the airbag is held on with screws (probably hex or torx), with later cars the air bag is clipped on.
Beneath the airbag is a torx screw bolt that holds the steering wheel on.
Disconnect the battery for around 20 mins BEFORE you take the airbag off .. you could trigger it and that won't be funny ...
