Driving position?

Post by ched999uk »

Hi, I haven't yet bought a 206cc (have to sell smart convertible tow car first) but I keep reading that the driving position is not good.
Does anyone think the driving position is bad? If so in what way is it bad?

Thanks

I've not heard that. I guess if you were really tall it might be an issue, but my wife is 5ft and it's no trouble for her.
Cheers Col.

And I'm 6' 1" and I find it comfortable too.

Why not test drive one first?

Thanks for the replies. I will test drive one but I want a diesel and currently there aren't any within about 50 miles. As I said I still have to sell smart car first and have a couple of little jobs on that to do first.
So I have been reading lots of great info here and reading reviews on other sites.
Thanks

If you are worried about this test drive any CC to eliminate it. Make sure that seat mives back and forth properly, and up and down, as well as the recliner.

Cheers. The one in Runcorn is about 60 miles away and although it's a leather interior which we would prefer the missis doesn't like the 2 tone colour but it does have teh jbl upgrade which I like the idea of :). If we were ready to buy I would be inclined to make the trip to see it.

You are right that I need a test drive, in fact I must get a test drive in any 206cc to see if it's OK. I don't want to let the smart go without knowing that a 206cc is a good alternative to replace it with.

Thanks very much for all your help.

It is a foreign car, so all the driver's space is on the wrong side. The pedal box is better than a Lotus 7, but thin feet are useful. There is no accelerater foot rest (no space for it). I compensate by loads of seat rake to support the weight of upper leg. Knees just miss steering wheel even with the seat right back. This now puts the enormous A posts in my field of vision at T junctions and roundabouts, requiring much head and shoulder movement to see whats going on (okay if seat belts allow you to do so). That said, I do at least get a straight arm position, and the suspension system does impart a positive and comfortable ride under all conditions. Its also easy to get in and out of (unless you are the second passenger!) Go on, buy one. :)

Ah that explains my one and only minor gripe, I sometimes catch my foot on the steering column, I don't have big feet (size 9s). Other than it it's nice and comfy for me. You won't know unless you try one, it doesn't have to be a diesel, just go and try a petrol nearer home.
