Gauges just stop working

Post by petethepond »

My wifes 1.6 diesel 06 plate 206cc has a recurring fault.

Somtimes while driving all of the gauges just stop ! The engine still starts and runs though.

If its dark, all of the lights on the dash, with the exception of the radio/cock diplay and heater display go out and a pollution fault sign apears on the clock. She even got a passenger air bad disengaged sign come up. The headlamps and tail lights still work ok though.

She can stop the car when she gets to work and when she come back to the car to drive home everything is OK again....untill the next time :?

Are you saying the pollution fault comes on as the lights go out, or is it on all the time but is the only thing left when lights go out?
It seems like you have a bad connection somewhere, depending on your answer, possible BSI area or dash binnicle.

The polution fault code comes up on the radio/clock screen at the moment everyhing else goes off and that warning goes off as soon as all the dials come back to life. It dosnt show any other time.

The rest all seems to work ok, all of the external lights, wipers, indecators, horn ect just all of the dials go off and that warning comes up.

Odd one that. Use the battery disconnection method shown on this site to disconnect the battery and try cleaning all the connections on the BSI unit under the dash it sounds like a BSI related issue. Connections are all plug & socket so easy to do.

Above the drivers right hand knee and is built into the fuse box. This is only a guess as it's not something I have seen before, but is how I would start to tackle it.
Cheers Col.
