Is this Forum in Decline?

Post by WEE SMURF »

Or is it the time of year?,There just never seems to be very many people on board here, i'm just wondering if the 206 cc has had its day?, I remember when we had 205 Cti's and they were quite popular round our way then quite suddenly they were virtually all gone, Now that the 207cc can be had for under 4g now maybe a lot of folk are moving on and we will see the same rapid decline in numbers ?.

Im a regular on this forum...
http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/
and have grew accustomed to the number of members on at any one time ( have a look at the amount :) so maybe that's one of the reasons it always looks empty here?. Who knows but it does appear round this area anyway we are seeing a lot less of them on the road.

This was asked a couple of years ago and we're still here. The other 206 forum is rather livelier but rather more hatchbacks were sold than 206cc's. We seem to have have had a slight revival since 2011 though. 52 new members have joined this forum in the first 3 weeks of November so far, but I think most of them prefer to watch and learn rather than contribute to the discussion.

You are right though, there aren't many of us on here simultaneously. I'm glad that you are taking an interest and seem to be getting more involved. Thank you.

I can't imagine that Lyndon would have expected it to still be active 12 years after he started it.

Like GM says users observe more than post well I do anyway. This forum has helped alot with little problems I've had with my car and has lots of info and members who know what they talking about. Don't think the forum is finished yet!

A combination of factors I think:
1) There is a higher proportion of ownership of CC's by women, who don't tend to hang out on forums as much as men.
2) Similar to 1), but women only tend to post when there's a problem which they need to find a solution for, rather than just generally chatting about their cars or giving progress updates on projects.
3) The problems that are peculiar to the CC are mainly roof related, and there's not as much opportunity to find these problems at this time of year. I predict a spike in roof related issues in spring, most of which will turn out to be due to poor maintenance or lack of exercise.
4) The number of cars in daily use is steadily decreasing, and although this may partially be offset by those that are out there getting older and so developing more problems, there are fewer "never seen a problem like this before" situations.

I agree.
Use the forum most days....but read more than post.
I joined in July....and have learnt so much about the car...some really excellent posts.
Plan on keeping my 206cc for another six or seven years...but will eventually trade in for something
newer. Seem to be a lot of 206cc's in the Bristol area.
I think and hope that the forum will run for a few more years.
Next option is to trade in for the 207cc....so if we all up grade, we can start another forum !!!!

Or in my case, it's not even my car! But my daughter leaves anything mechanical to Dad!

Luckily he's not a bad part-time mechanic, so we've now got what was a bit of a sorry-state of a CC in need of some TLC running pretty well and reliably (he says touching the wood he desk is made of!) ;)

Compared to other forums this isn't particularly welcoming, the issue I think is that it's effectively run by 2-3 people who are set in their ways, for a forum to really work as a community it needs many more active contributors and a bit of chat and lively debate about all sorts of things, not just cars without heavy handed moderation. Such things seem to be discouraged here and the focus kept on the cars and problems, from what I can tell...

Also, and probably more importantly, the 206cc can be bought on the cheap these days, people generally aren't as interested in investing time and money on something worth very little - people come and go with one or two problems, get their answer (or put down) and leave again. If this was a Aston Martin or Lamborghini forum then I suspect it would be more active.

The Nail has been firmly smacked on the head, That is exactly my perception of the Board, A board can only be perceived by the attitude of the main participants and my experience in general has been one of
Grumpiness I suppose is one way to describe it :) , a bit off " I know it all " attitude which is never a good way to inspire debate by Members.

Another Forum I am a Member of is Scottish Elises , the perceived "feel" of that Forum is a Million miles from this one, some real nice personalities and incredibly helpful, Maybe that's just a Scottish thing :D ,worth having a look!.

Anyway I hope my opinion hasnt "grumped" anyone too much. :big-grin:

I agree that probably a lot of women own 206cc's. Me being one of them. My car didn't cost much but I am very proud of it. It's the best looking car I have ever had - if not the most valuable - and I chose it myself without being pushed into a car I didn't really want. I have reached a place where practicality is not so important. I read more than contribute as I don't know a lot about cars but am keen to learn.
I have received a lot of help so far and found people very informative and mainly friendly. Some seem grumpier than others, but hey, that's life. Their hearts are still in the right places I think.
I have been on a forum before about jewellery making and I left because most of the chat was personal and really judgemental. It got very bitchy and inclusive. Horrible. If it's a car forum it should mainly be about cars! It's nice to know what people do too and know a bit about them but it's a fine line.

For me, this forum is awesome.
Just looking arround. ;)

But I don't post that much,
With so many specialists arround, I feel like a rookie, giving plausible advice... ;)
It's my first car after all :)

Agreed. Oh and just to put my earlier post in context - I wasn't supporting the idea that the forum is in decline (because I don't think it is). I was just suggesting plausible reasons for there being fewer posts at this time of year.
