Haynes Manual

Post by saintw »

Hi there, I've just registered and a complete newbie to peugeots

I'm going to attempt to fix my sons Head Gasket and whilt I'm there thought I should change his cam belt and give it a full service.

It seems to be a weird year and stuck in between two Haynes manuals.

It's a 206 1.1 Y Reg 2001, chasis number containing HFX

Strangely the blue Haynes manual runs from 98 to 2001 but reg S to X !!
The black manual runs from 02 to 06 and reg 51 onward

I'm thinking the blue book should be sufficient but a bit weird that it missed out the Y reg.

Thought?

I'm now off to search this forum for head gasket changes etc :-)

Thanks in advance for all your help

If you have the HFX (TU1JP) engine, it ran from 2000-2004 in that form. The main differences between the early and late models were electrical (Plex & pre-plex)

It's quite an easy job to do the head gskt on those. Put a new water pump on, as you are changing the cambelt. Those engines use "Stretch bolts", so measure the old head bolts, if they are longer than 176.5mm, renew them

Thanks, so the blue book should be fine, do you know weather the anyone's will contain a how to guide on cam belt changes, head gaskets etc

Not sure what plex and prex plex is, I own a 1979 VW camper and a 73 beetle so only really used to working on old vehicles.

Plex is Peugeots (and Citroen) canbus system (BSI) Search BSI on here for more info.
The Haynes should show you how. It's a SOHC engine, so not as bad as a twin cam.

Cheer, I've read it makes sense to change the water pump, just checked eBay £15 can't be bad.

The head gasket kit came with new bolts so might as well change them too?

All I need now is some very basic instructions lol

Might as well attempt it myself as I'm assuming to get it fixed at a garage would cost a lot more than the £700 he paid for the car. Funny enough it's just over the 80000 mile cam belt change recommendation.

I'd suggest the black cover ... That's what i have and it has a small section on the CC.

UPDATED: Monday 16th Sept:

Black cover manual covers the following engines:

1.1 (HFX, HFY, HFZ), 1.4 (KFW, KFX) and 1.6 (NFZ) SOHC
1.4 (KFU) DOHC
2.0 (RFN) DOHC (138bhp)

and 1.4 (8HX/8HZ) and 2.0 (RHY) diesels

Doesn't cover the 1.6 DOHC, 1.6 or 1.9 diesel or 2.0 180 GTI engine.

I got this one as it covers our 1.4 HDi hatchback, but it's also OK for the 2.0 CC (138bhp) and that's a 2001/Y-reg.
