Low pressure aircon port

Post by shep1001 »

Evening all, need your help again

Fantastic weather for trips out with the roof down this weekend but have two issues that will need sorting.

Aircon needed a re-gas, its holding its pressure but the garage suspects a seal leak as SWIMBO did not use it through the winter, they suggested one of those sealing sprays added through the low pressure port that might help re-condition the seals or seal any pin hole leaks that they said they could not find. I forgot to ask which is the low pressure port - is it the one at the front by the rad?

Secondly, there is a very small coolant leak. Hard to see where its coming from as it appears to be running along the engine before dripping on the floor of. Looks to be from the front of the engine where the manifold is but I cant see it only the damp patch on the engine. Thankfully appears to be an external leak as there is no evidence of water ingress into the oil. Very very slow too as I have monitored the level in the expansion tank and that has not dropped noticeably.

Is there any common leak points I should look for? or is it easier to book it in at the garage for a pressure test?

Thanks in advance. Drive safely everybody.

Andrew

I'd get the a/c properly checked (and not by Kw*kf*t). That way they will be able to find the leak using a uv light. The sealants that they sell over the counter might cause more problems and a/c gas isn't something that the normal man on the street should be playing with. It's actually illegal to discharge it into the atmosphere! Proper a/c kit will vacuum the old gas out and filter it, and it's recharged with the correct oil to look after the compressor and seals.

As for the leak, can't tell without seeing it sorry.
