HELP! Cannot Find Information Anywhere. Need Help Urgent

Post by 206PeugeotDave »

When I press my Clutch down or let go once I have pressed it my car seems to make a squeaking noise, it also does this when I press or release my Accelerator. It sometimes feels as if it is making the car jolt when it does this. Sometimes the problem occurs until I have been driving for a while and the car is warm, I have searched everywhere throughout the internet over the past few days and cannot find any information to help me, I have asked mechanics and they don't know what i'm going on about. I changed my Oil, Oil Filter, Air filter & Spark Plugs but this did not help. My car also tends to act up when I start it, I normally have to put the key in and turn on the electrics for about 15 seconds before I can start the car otherwise the car will cut out and reset the Date & Time, I would not mind this but it has happened twice whilst rolling over a train crossing; the only two times I have been across. The car is a Peugeot 206 1.4 Look2 with 74000 miles.

If anyone could help me that would be extremely helpful as I do not know what to do and don't even want to drive my car, I should also note that the noise also happened in my old car which was a Volkswagen Polo, it might be a problem due to my driving but I only purchased my 206 about 5 days ago.

Thanks.

You might want to try posting this on the 206info.co.uk forum ... we only have 1.6 and 2.0 engines here as it's specifically for the 206CC model.

As it's electric related, have you tested the battery and do you know how old it is? A lot of problems start to appear when the battery is starting to fade ...

Any clues as to where the squeaking is coming from?

I don't know if the squeaking problem is something to do with the battery but ill have it tested. It feels as if the squeak has something to do with the gearbox but not too sure. The noise sounds like its coming from the front of the engine or underneath I cant really pinnpoint it.

Most likely will be the auxiliary belt which drives the alternator and power steering. If it's getting old, it can be slipping ... and that might also explain the electrics issue if the battery isn't charging properly.

If it is the geabox, then the most obvious is clutch related. The release bearing could be wearing and this will spin when the clutch is engaged and released .. we had this on an Alfa and it had to be replaced.

There's not a lot for us to go on to be honest ... we would be guessing, as I am, and you could end up spending on something that isn't necessary. You need to find a good, honest mechanic who isn't afraid of Peugeot's! ;)

Thanks for the replies people, I am first going to replace the belt connected to the power steering as I just looked at it and I can see small cracks, does anyone know if this is a hard part to replace. Will the mechanic need to take the engine out or anything or will they be able to simply slide the belt off and put a new one on? Also, my car feels every single bump and crack in the roads no matter how small, I was wondering is this the wheels or suspension or anything? The previous owner had put on new wheels that are not the original manufacturer ones. I will have the thrust bearing checked as well. Thanks people
